Homeschool Mother's Journal/Weekly Wrap-Up October 12

Another week come and gone!  It was a good week, though, even though I do feel like I'm in a whirlwind.
 :-)

In my life/homeschool this week: The day started early with Kiddo #1's Chemistry class.  Did I mention that he doesn't like it being so early on a Monday?  lol.  ;-)   Kiddo #3 hurt his finger on Sunday afternoon.  Since it was still pretty discolored and swollen on Monday, hubby (he was off from work for the holiday) and I took him for x-rays.  No fractures, thank God, just some bad bruising that they said could take a couple of weeks to completely heal.  We'll take that, for sure!   :-)  We also took Kiddo #4 to a fabric store.  She wants to make her own costume this year.  She has recruited my dad to help her. (he used to make my costumes when I was a kid)  She is going to be a Hershey Kiss, so we found the perfect silver, shiny material for the task.  I know she will really enjoy being able to make her own costume.  She did also have sewing class on Monday and continued working on her mini dolphin pillow-pet.  She is really so talented!

On Tuesday, the kiddos got much work done and had their Italian lesson in the afternoon.  They are really enjoying their Italian class and are doing so well with it!  It makes such a difference when a teacher makes it fun and hands-on.  They got to draw and label pictures in Italian of the seasons and are making calendars with the months and days of the week.  I posted some photos of our "ordinary" day here.  :-)



My weekly recipe linkup was also on Tuesday.  I shared my homemade laundry detergent recipe.  You can see it, and all of the other recipes that were shared here.

On Wednesday, after Kiddo #1 and 2's online class, we had an incredible field trip to Valley Forge National Park.  They host a homeschool day twice a year and I am so glad that the weather cleared up enough for us to attend.  What an experience!  I remember vaguely visiting there as a child, but nothing like this with hands-on stations.  We also got to walk into Washington's headquarters.  It truly gives you a new respect for the immense sacrifices that were made for our freedom and how much we need to cherish what was earned for us through that sacrifice.  I posted some wonderful photos here.




Thursday was a good day getting caught up on some work.  Here is a photo of Kiddo #3 putting together a puzzle from his Apologia Zoology book.  We had classes at church in the late afternoon and Kiddo #1 had his Civil Air Patrol meeting.  He is looking forward to being part of the Flight line security for an air show this weekend!  :-)



Friday will be a quiet day with some school work, Halloween costume making and perhaps some baking, as well.  I hope everyone has a great weekend!

What I'm reading: continuing with a two online Bible studies.  I can barely keep up with them.  Life has been a bit of a whirlwind, lol!  :-)

What I'm praying for: our nation, our military, those who are unemployed, sick or suffering, my family....

Really, really cool that YOUR DAD is helping to make the Hershey Kiss costume! What a special things for your daughter and him! Something to cherish when she's older! Sweet!

But poor Kiddo #3! Ouch! Finger doing better?

Valley Forge looks pretty neat too!

I think that is is so cool that you are teaching your daughter to sew and that she is making her own Halloween Costume! So awesome! I love your homemade detergent recipe which you shared on Tuesday. I have been making homemade detergent for a while now and we love it...so much better than commercially made detergent. You sure do some wonderful things in homeschool...your children are so blessed. Enjoy the coming weekend!

Another wonderful week Lisa. I am so sorry your son hurt his finger. Finger things can hurt so badly because you always move them. And YAY for your daughter making her costume. Can't wait to see pictures. I think it is wonderful that your Dad will help her, that is a memory she will always have!

Busy busy! Sounds like a wonderful week. I keep seeing all these awesome field trips to American Revolution sites lately, and I'm just a little jealous; there's nothing like that around here! Love that second Washington quote.
