Shabby Chic Earring Display

This is one of my very favorites!

It started out as this…

20120621-114551.jpg

I wanted a chip paint look. I found these instructions for Distress Paint with Vaseline at Shanty 2 Chic, and decided to give it a try.

After removing the back and glass, I painted the edges and a few other spots with black acrylic paint, spread the Vaseline then spray painted with Rust-Oleum 2X Painter’s Touch in heirloom white.

In the spots that I put the Vaseline thick, the paint peeled right off; I sanded in other spots. I LOVE the way it turned out.

I decided it needed a softer look so I added some rosettes made with scraps of a canvas drop cloth.

I cut and glued plastic needlepoint canvas to the frame. The pretty pattern you can see behind the needlepoint canvas is scrapbook paper that I glued (with spray adhesive) to the back before re-attaching. Since this is a shaddow-box type frame, there is a divider between the glass (now plastic canvas) and the back of the frame so I was able to re-attach the back of the original frame and still have room to hang earrings. PERFECT, because this Shabby Chic earring display can sit on a dresser, table, or hang on the wall.

What do you think?

I hope your inspired to make your own! Of course, if that’s not your thing, you can purchase one of your own at my Etsy store.

About southernflaircrafts

I am a very busy wife and mother of two beautiful little girls. I work part-time in a flexible position as an Office Administrator for a financial advisory firm; I love the work I do and am especially grateful that it allows me to be a Mom first. I love to create!! Although I think my creativity was born with my first child, before children I would not have considered myself very creative. My mind is always wandering ahead to my next project, whether it's woodworking, sewing, paitning, or crafting with my kids. I also love blog-hopping (and blogging - I'm learning as I go); sometimes I see things I know I have got to make or I see a great creation and am insprired with ideas of my own. I especially like projects that rescue some treasure that would otherwise become another victim of the landfill.
