The challenge this week at Capture the Moment is all about layering, from making a one-layer card to a multi-layered card.  After making these cards, I feel like I should be somewhere in the tropics.

All three of the following cards have the same base using this fabulous sketch from Mojo  Monday.  The center panel is made using a strip of white cardstock that I used a direct apply ink technique.

I randomly rubbed on Raspberry Fizz, Orange Zest and Hawaiian Shores ink using PaperTrey Ink’s dye inks.  I drew my color  palette from The Ribbon Girl’s challenge, the challenge is use the colors orange, pink and aqua and of course a bit of ribbon.  The only ribbon I used is the base of the sentiment but I think it is a unique use of ribbon so hopefully that is acceptable.

My level 1 card has the image directly stamped on to the cardstock and embossed using black embossing powder.  I added button brads to the center of each of the flowers and rhinestone on the side as I didn’t space the flowers as well as I should have.

My level 2 card is similar. I stamped the flowers this time using white embossing  powder but I really didn’t like it so I thought I’d step it by die cutting the flowers and then stamping them with Fresh Snow ink and embossing with white embossing powder.  I added buttons instead of brads for a bit more texture.

Lastly, for my level 3 card, I die cut the largest of the flowers using black cardstock and layering them with the die cut flowers but this time I die cut the flowers with white cardstock and then stamping them using the same inks as the background.

So do you have a favorite?  I especially like the last card as I think the black really grounds the flowers and gives a nice accent for the bright colors used.  The challenge this week at Crazy 4 Challenges is to use black cardstock,  I love to use black cardstock and this card is a good example of why!
