Thimbles

The Quiltville link-up about thimbles has been really interesting.  Here's my contribution.

This is my collection of decorative, and some usable, thimbles.  DH gave me some Black Hills Silver collectible thimbles, and family members have picked up thimbles from different locations around the world.  See the large thimble by the oil can?

That came from the Thimble Museum I visited in Germany.  Often when you are joining a family for a meal, and after dinner liquor will be offered.  And if you didn't want to seem greedy, you'd say "Just a thimble full, please."  That phrase is around the top of this pewter cup:  Ein fingerhut, bitte.

This is another goody from the Thimble museum...  Bishop on a thimble.   The museum building used to be a thimble factory.

Here's two more from my collection.  The one on the left is a Roxanne thimble.  It fit well before bariatric surgery, not so much afterwards.  I took it to the jewelry store, and we bent it to a more oval shape, which helped, but not enough.  So it's not used very much.  The one on the right belonged to my grandfather.  He spent many years a widower, and was very capable of caring for his own wardrobe.

This needle book was with the thimble.

Ad copy on the inside. I LOL'd!

Here's what I find in my handwork pouch. The one on the far right is great for projects where you need to grip the needle to pull it through.  I used it on the hand embroidery.  The blue one really needs to have something hard between the end and your finger.  Plus it's too small in the summer.  My favorite is on the left.  I got it in a Quilting to Friendship Secret Santa exchange a few years ago.  It fits like a dream, and the dimples are deep and shaped really nicely.  Plus, it's beautiful!  I'm using it to finish up the binding as soon as I finish with this post!
