Driving By #DOswts378

Time for another DOswts Challenge! Now that I’m on a ‘permanent vacation’ time goes by even faster than back when I was working full time. What the heck! Isn’t it supposed to go slower? This cute card reminds me of the first car that we got for our son Corey. I don’t even want to think of how many years ago that was! The other kids all got Neons but he was born an antique car collector. We were on vacation and stopped at a garage sale down in Iowa or Missouri and found the little gem. It was a 1967 VW bug in really nice condition. Of course there was no way it would drive all the way home so we had to go back down with a trailer to get it. I think my lawn mower was more reliable than the engine in that car, lol. It ran great when it was cool out, but would overheat on a warm day. VW bugs are sort of like beagles, just so darn cute you gotta love ’em even if they are a pain in the butt.

I was having a real creative dry spell, lol. When that happens I head to a card layout or to the Stampin’ Up! catalog and start stamping. I’m so glad that this week was an inspiration sketch to help get me started.

Because my son’s bug was tan and he loves purple, I decided to recreate his car. His birthday is coming up in February and this card just might get used for that. The image is stamped with Tuxedo Black Memento Ink onto a 2 1/2″ square of Basic White and then colored in with Stampin’ Blend Markers. Here are the colors that I used:

  • Crumb Cake Light – Car
  • Smoky Slate Light – Metal trim
  • Papaya Light – Headlight
  • Poppy Parade Light – Tail Light
  • Rich Razzleberry Light and Dark – Packages
  • Fresh Freesia Light – Packages
  • Highland Heather Light – Packages

I think I may have forgotten to mention that the Driving By stamp set is one of the SALE-a-bration Event sets that are free with a $50 purchase. There are 2 other fun vehicles and 2 more fun greetings in the set as well. The groovy swirly purple paper behind the car is also a SALE-a-bration product called Simply Marbleous and comes in a pack of 48 – 6″ x 6″ pieces. With 8 each of 6 double sided designs you can make tons of groovy cards!

Paper Dimensions:

Crumb Cake Base 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″ Scored at 4 1/4″

Simply Marbleous Designer Paper 3 1/4″ Square

Rich Razzleberry 1″ x 4″ with flagged ends*

Basic White 2 1/2″ Square

*To create the flagged ends use the Banners Pick a Punch or simply use a scissors, make a cut straight in from the end and then cut from the corner to the end of the center cut to remove both sides.
