HERE COMES SUMMER THEME

I’ve recently joined this fab group of fellow Demonstrators to learn how to make more of the technologies that are out there. It’s great to participate in this fab themed Hop today. I’m fairly new to Blog Hops though I’ve joined a few recently and am enjoying creating projects to a theme or a colour combo, I find it helps to focus the mind and stops me from having too many ideas at once…..

Today I’m sharing a simple but effective fun fold, it’s very old school but with a newer twist. I have seen a few people create this fold and I designed a card for a recent card swap with a group of Demos in another new group from my extended Team that I’ve joined since my promotion to Silver. It was well received there and so I thought it might work well for today’s theme. It’s become known as a Vertical Easel Card.

The Suite of products that I featured here is the Ice Cream Corner, nothing makes me think about Summer more than Ice Creams and Ice Lollies. I’m so glad that we are at last having the weather that fits with today’s design.

My card base here is the fab new In-colour Pale Papaya and I’ve also teamed this with Blackberry Bliss another colour from the co-ordinating patterned papers, I was surprised just how well these colours go together.

Basic Card Instructions:

  • The card base was Half an A4 sheet of card created from cutting on the long side at 14.8cm and then this was scored at 10.5cm to form the base of our card. A tall side fold card.
  • Next I created another score down the front of the card base, to do this I took the longer side by turning the card 90 degrees and placing this edge up to the centre score line I used my bone folder to score the crease and split the front of my tall side fold card into two distinct sections.
  • Next I cut two pieces of patterned paper I used the multi coloured stripes to 4.5cm x 14cm. I chose to have my stripes verical, but horizontal would have looked equally nice.
  • I used the Layering Circles Dies to cut a Basic White Circle and a Scallop Circle slightly larger in Blackberry Bliss to form a pretty accent layer. A layer was created for the inside again with Basic White measuring 7.5cm x 14cm, this was added to be able to write inside the card and doesn’t show when the card is in it’s vertical display position.
  • The White front circle was decorated using the Confetti Stamp in the Sweet Ice Cream Stamp Set I stamped with Pale Papaya and Blackberry Bliss Ink. This was also stamped at the bottom of the inside layer with a post it note used to create a neat stamped edge.
  • The same colour inks were used to stamp out the Ice Lollies in the Stamp Set and Craumb Cake ink created the Lolly Sticks, these were then fussy cut and added to the card. The Papaya was stuck flat and the Blackberry with a Dimensional to add height.
  • The card has two mechanisms that make it into a vertical easel and they are both simple when you know how! The front mechanism uses two circles cut from the circle dies around 3cm or using a circle punch of around 1 1/2 inches would work too, fold each punched circle in half and stick a straight edge of each folded circle either side of the fold. Add glue to the other half of the circle and stick the circle image to this with the Lollies in the correct orientation. (see photo below for a visual of this step)
  • The other mechanism is the ‘stopper’ to pop up our vertical easel, I used the smaller oval from the great new Double Oval Punch to punch Pale Papaya card and added this to the edge of my card with a mini dimensional with the long side of the oval in the vertical position. I makes a great stopper without too much bulk.
  • Lastly I decided to make my card a Thank You card, the fonts in the stamp set are beautiful so any would look great. I used Versamark ink on Basic Black card and added White Embossing Powder that I heated with my heat tool and then I fussy cut this and added on top. I think this sentiment really adds a great pop to the card.

Sweet and simple this card could be made using the Ice Cream stamps too. This fold looks very effective for the very basic fold that it is and I have made many of these with lots of different product Suites and created many different but equally eye-catching cards.

Sometimes the simpler cards can be adapted more and I love this about easy fun folds.

I hope you enjoy the next stop on the hop today and thanks so much for stopping by.

I have featured this Suite before so you could find out more about it from my post HERE

Hope you pop back soon.
