I was sent a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. I was not financially compensated, and all opinions are 100 percent mine.
First of all, this is a cozy mystery, and while there is nothing that will technically upset readers, there is an unusual link between Chrissy and her new owner. One might even call it a “psychic” connection. I was not offended by this, but I just wanted to point this out to those who might struggle with that story element.
What an absolutely delightful book! This is a mystery written in the classic style with a modern twist if I ever did see one! I simply adore the way in which the author constructed this book. I honestly could not figure out “whodunit” mainly because of the various perspectives that were used within the framework of the story. I have grown accustomed to having just one perspective featured in mysteries, but there is no doubt that Diane Wing has returned to that style of featuring the perspectives and concerns all the main players as well as the suspects. I applaud this stylistic element, and I hope the author continues to feature this in the rest of the books in the series.
I loved Chrissy. How could you not? In spite of the fact that she seems to have transcendental qualities that can communicate with humans on a profound level, I was captivated with this lovely Shih Tzu. This may be the first time I’ve seen this breed featured in a mystery in this particular way, and I do believe she is the real star of the book. The case is peppered with red herrings and is quite smartly written, but Chrissy is the one who captured my heart. I highly recommend this to cozy mystery readers. And Hallmark audiences especially would love the whole pet rescue theme that is woven throughout.
