Do you need Halloween cupcake ideas along with tutorials for a Halloween event? There are many posts about Halloween cupcake topper ideas out there. But what’s the point if you don’t have step-by-step instructions to recreate them? Keep reading for the 21 Best Halloween Cupcake Tutorials for Your Spooky Event.

Halloween is one of my favorite holidays because there’s so much art involved. There are so many DIY projects available. Whether it’s decorating your home, yard, front door, party table, or costume, creativity is in the air!

Jeremy, my husband, and I love to dress up for the occasion. Yes, we’re nerds like that! We’ve paired up as sugar skulls, superheroes, and Harry Potter and Game of Thrones characters.

And there’s always some party at work, home, or at a friend’s, where decorations are in order. To me, one of the easiest ways to decorate for Halloween is with food. But then again, I am a foodie!

There are so many cool ideas online, ranging from sweet to savory, and everything in between! Of course, I’m biased. I believe that Halloween cakes or cupcakes can make any party table look A-MAZING!

So, in that spirit (pun intended), I’ve rounded up the 21 Best Halloween Cupcake Tutorials for Your Spooky Event.

21 BEST HALLOWEEN CUPCAKE TUTORIALS FOR YOUR SPOOKY EVENT

17 Best Halloween Cupcake Tutorials - ghost cupcake

I’ve put together this roundup with tutorials of varying difficulties. You should definitely have a few options that you can execute with the entire family if you have little ones. But I also want the more advanced DIYers to have tutorials that’ll challenge them.

1.     PUMPKIN PATCH CUPCAKES

If you’re looking for a simple, elegant, and beautiful pumpkin design, these Pumpkin Patch Cupcakes by Cupcake Diaries are an excellent choice.

You can make these cupcakes with kids. They can add the pumpkin’s stem or pretzel stick. I’m sure they’d be happy to add the icing on top too.

The great thing about this cupcake tutorial is that it only takes two colors of icing and a pretzel stick. There are no intricate designs to worry about, but they look like you put in a lot of time and effort.

2.    BUTTERFINGER SKULL CUPCAKES

Don’t put the orange icing away! Instead of turning her orange icing into a pumpkin, Rachel at Sprinkle Some Fun, created these cool and easy to make Butterfinger Skull Cupcakes.

All you need besides frosting is sprinkles and skull-shaped Butterfinger candy. Another perfect Halloween cupcake design to make with the kids.

I’m sure they would love to add the sprinkles and place the skull on the cupcake. It’s the kind of activity that teaches them they can also contribute to family events. It makes kids feel so special!

3.    SLIMY CUPCAKES

Make, Bake, Celebrate’s Slimy Cupcakes are the third I would place in this easy category. Again, this cupcake design only requires one candy eyeball, green icing, and green gel. Simple, sweet.

Whether you’re a kid or an adult, who doesn’t love playing with slime? I know I’m dating myself here, but I even tried out for Double Dare when I was a kid. Yep, I did! I wanted to go through the obstacle courses and get slimed.

That’s what these cupcakes remind me of. Love them.

Considering that they’re so simple to make, it’s another kid-friendly option. I’m sure they’ll love finishing up the cupcakes with eyeballs. ?

4.    ZOMBIE BRAIN CUPCAKES

Best-Halloween-Cupcake-Tutorials-zombie-brain-cupcakes

Yes, you heard right, Zombie Brain Cupcakes, by Southern Mom Loves. These look disgustingly delicious! With an easy pinkish-greyish icing for the brain and red corn syrup for blood, it’s another easy design to execute.

But here’s the cool thing, there’s more than meets the eye with these guys. They’re filled with cherry pie filling, making them slightly more gruesome when bitten into. Pretty creative!

5.   FRANKENSTEIN CUPCAKES

Pink Cake Plate’s Frankenstine Cupcakes are perfect for a kid’s Halloween party. What kid wouldn’t like to devour this cute Frankenstein head?

Think you would like a couple of cupcake designs for your event? You can just make a bigger batch of green icing and make these cupcakes along with the slimy cupcakes at #3 above.

6.    HAUNTED CUPCAKES

Today’s Parent’s Haunted Cupcakes are the cutest bat cupcakes I’ve ever seen. Yet another cupcake design you can make with the kids while they eat half the batch of Oreos used to make the bats.

This is a video tutorial, which makes it even easier to follow.

7.     SPIDER WEB CUPCAKES

Best-Halloween-Cupcake-Tutorials-spider-web-cupcakes

The technique used by Harry and Lexy’s Workshop for these Spiderweb Cupcakes can also be used for cakes designs.

You can make these in any color you would like. All you need for the base is two colors of icing plus a toothpick. Feel free to make the spiders with M&M’s as the body or completely out of chocolate, like in the tutorial.

The more realistic, the easier it’ll be to spook your guests!

8.    GLOWING FONDANT GHOST TOPPER

I really love Brenda Broadway’s designs and she does not disappoint here. Her Glowing Fondant Ghost Topper has an extra layer of creativity. They don’t just glow, they’re actually illuminated underneath with a tea light. So cool!

This BB Bakes Sugar Art design is perfect for a dark Halloween party. Imagine how cool your food table will look in the dark with glowing cupcakes.

9.    GHOST CUPCAKES

Michael at Inspired by Charm has inspired me with these beautiful and elegant Ghost Cupcakes. My favorite design is the one with the colorful fall leaves (sprinkles) on the tree.

Whether you like them brown or with a pop of color, this is a great cupcake tutorial. It teaches you how to create Halloween cupcakes that will make you look like a pro cake decorator. Imagine how great these will look when displayed!

10.  REESE’S FRANKENSTEIN CUPCAKES

Your Cup of Cake has two very creative and fun cupcake designs, including the next one on the list. The best part is that each design is made mostly with candy. So, while these cupcakes look very involved, you’re simply assembling with candy for the most part, rather than creating piece by piece.

The best part is that the designs are so cool, they look like you put a lot of time into them.

But, I have to admit, the most important reason I love this design is the Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. They’re so delicious! While I don’t eat candy anymore, Reese’s cups definitely hold a special place in my heart. ?

So, my preference aside, check out these Reese’s Frankenstein Cupcakes… you’re gonna love them too.

11.    EASY SKELETON CUPCAKES

Best-Halloween-Cupcake-Tutorials-skeleton-cupcakes

I think Your Cup of Cake is so creative with simple materials. She creates an entire skeleton torso with pretzels!

Kids can definitely help make these Easy Skeleton Cupcakes by stacking the pretzels that are secured around a straw. Top it off with a marshmallow head and done.

12.  REESE’S CUP WEREWOLF CUPCAKES

Again, as I mentioned before, I’m biased here…

But, all kidding aside. This is a very creative way to assemble a werewolf cupcake! Hats off to Hungry Happenings with their Reese’s Cup Werewolf Cupcakes.

They also give you the option of creating a smooth surface werewolf, or one that looks “furry.”

13.   MICKEY’S NOT SO SCARY HALLOWEEN PARTY CUPCAKES

Just swoop back and forth piping thick stripes to create this cute mummy.

16.   CAULDRON CAKES

Okay, now there’s no way that I’m going to complete a Halloween themed cupcake post without including two of my favorite themes… Harry Potter and Game of Thrones (see below).

These Cauldron Cakes by Grown to Cook are upside down cupcakes hollowed out on top to create the inside of the cauldron. It reminds me of Harry Potter and his potions class. Perhaps you can add a Felix Felicis potion inside to ensure the Halloween festivities go as perfect as you want them to go for you. ?

17.   GAME OF THRONES FIRE AND ICE CUPCAKES

Like I said, I cannot Leave Game of Thrones out of this Halloween cupcake tutorials list. The Laughing Squid’s guest demonstration by Rosanna Pansino of Nerdy Nummies, doesn’t disappoint.
