The Real Macaw (Meg Langslow, #13)

When I need some light reading with a touch of humor, I turn to Andrews' bird books and follow the adventures of Meg, Michael, and Meg's crazy family. The mystery is always interesting, the stories are funny and the characters are a kick. Meg & Michael have just had twins and are feeling sleep-deprived when they are invaded by the inhabitants of the local animal shelter as the mayor has made a deal that turns the government buildings over to developers. A local animal welfare activist is murdered and Meg gets dragged into the investigation as her family members become endangered.
