This is a long book so I alternately listened and read it on my kindle. This novel is definitely not for everyone. It's long and detailed with a huge cast of characters. I personally loved it but I know many of my reading friends would hate it because it's too involved. The best thing about it is the character of Thomas Cromwell. The entire narrative is told from his point of view, although often the author steps out from Cromwell's head to describe events. Cromwell is intense, intelligent, observant, and a wonderful commentator on people. He sees what they do, knows their intent, and uses it to his advantage. But he is often kind and merciful, thus being drawn as a very complex character, just like a real person. The whole story of the time is fascinating and the fact that we know how things are going to work out didn't change the enjoyment of the story. There are so many wise passages where Cromwell is stepping back and looking over the landscape of the society and I really enjoyed the whole novel. It was worth the long read.
For gentle readers: several instances of harsh language
