Cutting Board

Man what a crazy past couple of weeks, am I right??  I hope you had a good Christmas, Kwanzaa, Hanukkah, Krampus or whatever it is you do or don’t celebrate.

Here at the table we celebrate everything Santa.

The Crazy One goes from this: 20160910_173900

To This: FB_IMG_1469790774613

And on one rare occasion he can even do this: NDSanta

Ok so he isn’t really Crazy-Haired but he is showing off his Notre Dame Obsession, I like to call this Notre Dame Santa.

Ok back on track…

Money was a little tight this year at the table so the Crazy-Haired One and I thought we would save money by making a few gifts but I can honestly say I think it would have been cheaper in the long run to buy something knowing they were probably going to return it, lol.  Here are 3 of the homemade gifts the Crazy-Haired One came up with (Yes ladies and gentlemen HE came up with these all on his own).  The Snowman Snow-globe was for his mom, the Nativity Scene was for my mom, and the Sea turtle chalkboard was for our niece who requested that her uncle make her something for her room.

While I generally like coming up with stuff to make or buy, this year was a little tough even for our nieces and nephews.  But we eventually got it done and even had a little time and money to spare for a few last minute gifts for my brother and sister-in-law, which after a slight aggravating mishap that I will admit caused a little tension and I had to step away from and finished just a few hours before giving it out, turned out really well.  So well that a couple of the Crazy-Haired One’s co-workers wanted one for gifts too.

I saw the saying on a tea-towel a few months back and was planning on buying it but of course in true Terra-fashion when I went back it was gone.

Then I thought well I could make it myself but then I was having a hard time finding the right kind of vinyl and color of towel to go with her kitchen.

But then I remembered that a friend of mine had made some cute cutting boards for her booth at the Woven Holiday Mingle and Market. Assuming she had just bought the cutting boards on sale somewhere I texted her and she told me that she got them at the Habitat for Humanity Resale shop.  So the Crazy-Haired One turned into the Crazy-Driving One and whipped the car around in the middle of Holiday traffic to head clear across town, fortunately we got there just before the store closed.  After doing a little digging we found a few glass tiles that weren’t to blemished and we were good to go.

So I dug out my Cricut machine once more and got to work.

After designing, positioning, sizing, re-positioning, and resizing I let the machine cut out the saying and then I took to weeding out what wasn’t needed.

You can barely see it but once all the unwanted vinyl is stripped away I placed a big piece of transfer paper over the whole thing so that I could pick it up all at once and move to the glass.  Now what you won’t see is the “mishap” where I was lining up the vinyl and one corner fell and stuck to soon.  Once that vinyl is down you can’t pick it back up without ripping it and well once that happened I was done with all things Christmas.

But the next day when I had a coolish head about me and figured out what needed to be fixed and how; we added these little sticky tabs for feet and wha-la another project done.

I actually made 2 boards.  My brother is a Texas Longhorn fan and he is one day going to run his own catering business serving smoked and BBQ-ed meat so he got one too.  And I will quote the Crazy-Haired Notre Dame One “This is the only way that the Texas Longhorns will be in my house.”
