One layer cards can be fun to make, but they can also be a challenge. Working through this I kept having to remind myself that I wanted it to be just one layer. Rather than adding layers or die cuts, I added depth by letting some of my images overlap with one another, which helped give it a little more interest.
First I stamped the sentiment in the lower right corner of my top fold white card. I used MFT Black Licorice Hybrid Ink to adhere the sentiment, which is from the Creative Expressions John Lockwood Lily of the Valley stamp set.
I then moved on to my stars. I first stamped the large star, from Jillibean Soup’s Oh Happy Day, using Altenew Forest Glade ink. I then stamped the same star lower down and embossed with Wow Rich Metallic Gold embossing powder. I then took some smaller stars from Happy Little Stamper’s Bold Birthday Sentiments stamp set (which I think is retired) and scattered them along the diagonal line I was creating, varying whether they were in the green ink or the gold embossing powder.
Having completed that I moved on to add a special extra touch – glow in the dark stars! I’d been going back and forth about whether to do it for the whole time I’d been making the card, then finally decided I would. I felt like the stars that are only properly visible in the dark were a nice addition given the sentiment. The glow in the dark effect comes from embossing with Wow Glow-in-the-Dark embossing powder.
Of course I had to take a picture to show the glow. My camera really doesn’t like taking pictures in the dark (surprise, surprise!) so it’s not a great picture, but it shows the effect well enough, anyway.
I pretty happy with this card. I wasn’t entirely sure what I was going to do when I started, and it built itself as I went along. This was my first time using the glow in the dark embossing powder, and I love how much it glows! I did find it a bit difficult to work with because I couldn’t tell when it was melted as it’s quite difficult to see when it’s not glowing! Plus it still feels almost powdery to the touch even after its melted… But I got it in the end.
Love,
Lady Joyful
