Welcome to the Monday post, the start of another week

Morning all,

Welcoming new follower Nicola of Daydreamer challenges - hope you will stop by again sometime soon.

I trust you all enjoyed your autumnal weekend? Get up to much? I hope the weather didn't spoil your plans too much. Been keeping an eye on Hurricane Irma over the weekend and it's gonna bad all day today too - stay safe if you reside (or are vacationing) in Florida or any of the other states likely to be affected today/tomorrow/Wednesday.

I got asked to make a birthday card and here's what I came up with ... hope they like it as I don't many other 70 year old "Ampy's"!!!

My card

The front, back and inside of my card along with the front and back of my envelope

Materials used:
  • White 15cm square, 250gsm, card and matching sized envelope
  • Two pieces of white card cut to 14cm square and one piece of navy card cut to 14.5cm square
  • Using the offcut of navy card I die cut the recipients nickname
  • Inkadinkado Happy and Birthday sentiments (from the 31318 Birthday numbers set) stamped using Memento tuxedo black ink and 70th (from the 97715 Artstamp large numbers set) stamped using Memento Paris dusk inks
  • Acid Drops and Whatnots image (from AD38 Dressed to kill) stamped using Versafine onyx black ink
  • Sharpie fineliner (red) used to add colour to the dots in the Happy and Birthday and to the waistcoat and handkerchief of the image
  • Faber Castell medium flesh pencil used to add colour to the face and hand of the image
  • Stardust stickles to bling up the card
  • Anita's dimensional gloss to add dimension to the "monocle"
  • For the inside, reverse and envelope I used the Acid Drops sentiment "Happy Birthday you old smoothie" from the same set, stamped using Memento tuxedo black ink

I'll be entering the above for the following challenges:-
  1. Moving Along With The Times - challenge No. 53 - ADD A NUMBER
  2. Aud Sentiments - challenge No. 188 - ANYTHING GOES + A SENTIMENT
  3. Dragonfly Journey - challenge No. 100 - TRUE BLUE
  4. Kraftin' Kimmie - challenge No. 398 - BIRTHDAYS

I bought this fabulous poinsettia stamp last week (whilst at Snazzy's in Swindon meeting up with a pal) with the intention of using my MISTI and Distress Markers ... now, here's the thing ....  I'm not sure whether it's that method of colouring which is not for me, whether I was doing something wrong or just selected the wrong colours but ... the result was total PANTS! What you see below was plan B! I rather like this version but I WILL revisit the other method at some point.

My card
And a closer view of the "no line" colouring and sparkle

The front, back and inside of my card along with the front and back of my envelope

Materials used:
  • White C6/S2, 250gsm, card and matching sized envelope
  • Two pieces of white card cut to 13.7cm x 9.5cm
  • One piece of dark red DCWV linen texture card cut to 14.2cm x 10cm
  • Penny Black poinsettia image stamped using Memento London fog
  • Faber Castell polychromos pencils used to colour image
  • Mod Podge gloss "painted" over the image before adding a liberal sprinkling of glamour dust and then shaking off the excess
  • Paper Artsy sentiment (JOFY17) stamped using Memento tuxedo black ink
  • Six Paper Mania mini faux crystal gemstones to further bling up this sumptuous card

I'll be entering the above card for the following challenges:-
  1. Mod Squad - LOSE THE LINES
  2. Merry Christmas challenges - challenge No. 33 - ANYTHING CHRISTMAS GOES
  3. CAS on Sunday - challenge No. 116 - COLOUR ME PRETTY
  4. Crafty Hazelnuts Christmas Challenge - challenge No. 350 - ANYTHING CHRISTMAS GOES
  5. Addicted to Stamps - challenge No. 258 - HOLIDAY

And the total pants version? See below - any suggestions? Should I have blended with a water brush right away/used different colours or am I just not cut out for this method?

No idea what went wrong with the first lot of stamping, but the finished result on your further attempt looks lovely.

The 70th card is perfect too.

I love that elegant gentleman on your 70th birthday card and your your sparkly poinsettias are so pretty. I don't think your watercoloured version is 'pants' Kathy, but as far as I can see from the photo perhaps the colour is a bit dense and I don't know how you applied the colour, but I usually use a waterbrush which gives a softer look as it is a little easier to add more water if the colour looks too strong. I hope this helps. x

Two fabulous cards. Not sure about the stamping issue. Have you tried spritzing it with water before stamping? The other thing might be to try using a watercolour paint like gansai tambi instead of the markers on it. Good luck playing with it x

The 70 yo Ampy will be very pleased with his debonair card, Kathy! And your poinsettia card is gorgeous! I don't think your first effort is pants, however. Maybe skirts? But it's still very pretty from my monitor!! Hugs, Darnell
