DIY Floral Easter Basket

This DIY floral basket is the perfect spring home decor and doubles as an adorable basket for Easter!

This DIY floral basket is the perfect spring home decor and doubles as an adorable basket for Easter!Easter baskets aren’t just for kids. And not just for gathering Easter eggs! They can also be used in your spring and Easter decor. But not your traditional woven, bright-colored, store bought Easter basket. No, no, no, let’s go for something more mature. More natural. Let’s DIY a floral Easter basket!

And it all starts with a little bucket that costs less than $2…

This DIY floral basket is the perfect spring home decor and doubles as an adorable basket for Easter!Supplies:
Small metal bucket (5″ metal planter found at Old Time Pottery)
Styrofoam disc (4×2)
Moss roll
Jute Twine
Various floral picks
2 tall floral picks
Bunny pick

Not shown: Hot glue gun and needle nose pliers

This DIY floral basket is the perfect spring home decor and doubles as an adorable basket for Easter! You won’t even recognize this little bucket when we’re finished with this tutorial. I purposely chose a bucket with no handles because we are going to create handles with 2 tall floral picks. These are Bell of Ireland, but any tall floral picks will do. I love that these are green so they will blend in with the bucket later and not take away from what will be inside the bucket. It also turns our bucket into a basket.

Trim wire on picks to ~2″. Don’t toss excess wire we just trimmed off! We’ll use it again in a minute.

Hot glue the wire on picks to the sides of the bucket.

Wrap the bucket and wire with the twine, using hot glue to keep it in place.

Use needle nose pliers to bend the wire into a C-shape. Bring the tops of the two tall floral picks together and wrap the wire around them and tighten it to keep the ends together.

Manipulate the wire in the stems of the picks to give them a rounded look at the top.

The moss roll is 6×36″ and the bucket is ~5″ tall. Wrap the moss around the bucket, hot gluing as you go. Keep the top of the moss slightly higher than the lip of the bucket.

You should be able to wrap the moss around the bucket twice which will completely cover any holes in the moss and hide the bucket.

Trim excess moss around bottom edge of the bucket as needed with an old pair of scissors so that the bucket will sit flat.

Note: The moss is messy! Protect your work surface as you handle it. When finished hot gluing and trimming, give the bucket a good shake to remove excess loose moss.

Use needle nose pliers to remove individual stems from floral picks. Start with the tall flowers (Mini Delphinium), placing them into the foam. Fill in with the shorter flowers (Camellia and Ranunculus).

The idea is NOT to see into the bucket so keep everything closely packed.

Finish off the basket by adding the bunny pick and nestling it in the flowers.
