While I generally prefer the look of modern holiday cards, sometimes a very vintage looking stamp set tugs at my heart. Such was the case with the Banners for Christmas stamp set in the current holiday catalog from Stampin’ Up!® I really think vintage stamp sets also lend themselves really well to creating masculine cards which is the look I was going for with today’s card, although I couldn’t resist adding a little shimmer to it. 😉
I started by stamping the candy canes on a piece of scrap white cardstock using Real Red ink. I then added a generous coat of clear Sparkle pen to all the red areas. I tried as much as possible to avoid hitting any of the white areas because the red ink will run a bit when the Sparkle pen hits it. Once I had added Sparkle pen to both candy canes, I set them aside to dry.
In the mean time, I stamped the banner image using Early Espresso ink then added the word sentiments inside the banner, also in Early Espresso. I cut the banner out using the Bunch of Banners Framelits. To help give the banner a bit more dimension, I sponged around the edges using some Crumb Cake ink.
To give my background a little bit of character and texture, I randomly stamped the mistletoe image from the stamp set all over my background panel using Crumb Cake ink. To keep it from overwhelming the rest of my card, I stamped off twice before stamping on my panel. This is also known as third generation stamping. To keep with the vintage look and feel, I also sponged around the edges of the background panel using the Crumb Cake ink.
To assemble the card, I adhered the candy canes to my background panel using tape runner. I then adhered the sentiment banner over the candy canes using Dimensionals. I matted the background panel with a piece of Early Espresso cardstock for a bit of contrast, then adhered the matted layer to an A2 top-folding card base made from Crumb Cake cardstock and that finished my card.
I’m entering this card in the following challenges:
- Global Design Project – the current theme is a color challenge (Early Espresso, Real Red, Crumb Cake).
- Merry Monday – the current theme is candy canes.
- Christmas Card Challenges – the current theme is also candy canes.
Very very festive! A perfect, traditional card!
