Sunday Sample: Sweet Thanks

Hello again,

I have a simple card for you today using one little stamp in Strawberry Jude Stamp’s new release called, Don’t Forget Christmas.  This stamp set was designed for planner stamper, but I wanted to show that the small planner stamps can be used to make cards as well.  I’ll Put the link before so you will know where to buy these desirable little stamps, if you’re interested.   dont-forget-christmas-copy

I did a different take on color with the small peppermint candy, making the candies pastel instead of red and white, or green and white.

I was in the mood for something soft, which is the opposite result of what I usually get when I’m working with color.  I like bold, bright colors, so this was a nice change.

First I cut an A2 size top-folding card base and rounded the corners.  Then I folded this in half and creased the fold.

  • 110# Neenah Solar White Cardstock, cut to 8 1/2  x  5 1/2 inches
  • Paper Trimmer
  • Creative Memories Corner Rounder
  • Martha Stewart Score Board and Bone Folder –  Fold to make a 5 1/2  x  4 1/4 inch card.

Next I cut the card front using a lighter weight paper in the same color.  After I stamped it, I rounded the bottom corners.

  • 80# Neenah Solar White Cardstock, cut to 5  x  3 3/4 inches

The card front was stamped with diagonal stripes in various colors.

  • MISTI Stamping Tool
  • My Favorite Things Diagonal Stripes Background Stamp
  • Hero Arts Ink Pad, Cornflower
  • Hero Arts Ink Pad, Mint
  • Simon Says Stamp Ink Pad, Sunshine
  • Hero Arts Ink Pad, Bubble Gum

I started with blue and on the bottom right corner, I inked 1/4 of the stamp going toward the center.  The mint green was used next, taking it from the blue to the halfway point of the stamp.  Yellow ink was then laid on the background stamp from the halfway point toward the next corner, inking 1/4 of the stamp.  The last ink to lay down from the yellow to the corner, the last 1/4 of the stamp, was pink.  You can see how the ink overlapped from one color to another.

Using the same four ink pads, stamp the candy, three of each color.  Cut these out.  I only used eight candies, two of each color, selecting the ones that had nicer looking fussy cutting.

  • 80# Neenah Solar White Cardstock
  • four ink pads
  • Strawberry Jude Stamps Don’t Forget Christmas
  • scissors

The word “thanks” was die cut, then heat embossed.  The embossing was repeated to give the word more dimension.

  • Simon Says Stamp Thanks Die
  • 110# Neenah Solar White Cardstock
  • Cuttlebug Die Cutting Tool
  • VersaMark Sticky Ink Pad
  • Recollections Opaque Bling Embossing Powder
  • heat gun

The sentiment was adhered to the card front with liquid glue.  Four candies were glued down.  The other four candies were adhered with foam tape to give dimension.

  • Scotch foam tape
  • liquid glue

Last of all, sequins in blue, green, yellow and pink were glued to the card.

  • Simon Says Stamp Sequins, Spring Mix
