Multicolour Christmas Tree

Multicolour Christmas TreeThis colourful Christmas card turned out quite differently from how I’d intended, but I’m reasonably happy with it anyway. It’s primarily a response to the current challenge over at Muse: ChristmasVisions. I’m also entering it to CASology‘s “frame” challenge, SSS Wednesday‘s CAS, the layout from CAS(E) This Sketch, as well as Craftyhazelnut’s Christmas Challenge and Christmas Challenge Extra.

I initially intended to stamp my colourful tree onto black paper. Unfortunately the inks just did not show up well enough, so I had to change my plan.

Instead I inked up my stamp with multiple colours and stamped it directly onto my card base. The stamp did not fully take, and as it’s a wooden stamp I hadn’t been able to use my MISTI for it. I also don’t yet have a stampamajig… So I couldn’t restamp it.

My solution was to take colouring pencils and go back over the lines in as close to the same colour as possible. This helped define them better and fill in the gaps that hadn’t properly stamped.

Then I stamped my sentiment. I used MFT Black Licorice hybrid ink and my MISTI to make sure I got everything lined up. The first half of the sentiment is from Altenew’s Halftone Happy and I masked it off to get it stamped how I wanted it. I then used Lawn Fawn’s Jessie’s ABCs to make the other part of the sentiment.

I cut the frame from a piece of black cardstock. It is actually the piece I had originally tried to stamp the tree onto. I just used the other side of the paper. For a bit of glitz, I added clear Wink of Stella all over the frame and also put some in the centre of the star at the top of the tree. I then used Tombow Multi Mono Liquid Glue to adhere the frame in place.

As I said, I’m reasonably happy with how this turned out. It didn’t go exactly to plan but I think it created a nice bright card in any case.

Love,

Lady Joyful
