Peeking Flowers

Peeking FlowersMy second card didn’t turn out exactly as I’d planned, but I’m sharing it anyway. It’s a response primarily to the layout from CAS(E) This Sketch combined with Mod Squad‘s sentiment in focus. I’m also including Simon Says Stamp Wednesday‘s CAS challenge as well as Addicted to Stamps and More‘s anything goes challenge.

The idea had was to do partial die cutting, where I would use a circle die but only cut the top and bottom parts of it. That didn’t work out because I used a prefolded card, and it was too big when opened up to fit through my Big Shot in a way that would allow partial die cutting. So I ended up changing the plan!

Anyway, I started by drawing around the die I was going to use so I knew where to position my sentiment. The sentiment comes from Altenew’s Super Script and I stamped it with MFT Black Licorice hybrid ink using my MISTI to make sure it all lined up properly.

Next I cut my aperture. As I couldn’t die cut it I used my craft knife which meant it wasn’t as clean as I would have liked. But it worked! I decided to emphasise the sentiment ‘panel’ by scoring along the lines so that it went across the whole card panel.

Of course I then needed something to show through the aperture. I decided on stamps from Altenew’s Wild Hibiscus, and stamped and masked three of them with the same MFT ink. I then removed the masks and started painting them with my watercolours. I wanted it to be loose and kind of messy so I used my largest paintbrush. Unfortunately my largest paintbrush is still quite small so I had a bit more control than I wanted… I think I succeeded at getting the right kind of loose messiness though! I then decided to go over the whole panel with a wash of blue.

I set the card aside to dry, and it was finished.

Peeking Flowers 2I’m kind of happy with how this card turned out. I was initially frustrated because I couldn’t do it how I wanted to, and then I spent most of the time that I was working on it being frustrated as a result. But I like how the flowers turned out, and the way they peek through from behind. So yeah, it’ll do!

Love,

Lady Joyful
