Hi Everybody,

Change the sentiment on this card, and it can be given for many different occasions.  I needed a sympathy card, so I went with that.

I have been wanting these Altenew Lacy Scroll Stamps and Dies for a loooooong time.  At times, I couldn’t afford them.  At other times, when I had the money, they were sold out.  So finally!  Yay!  And I am not disappointed.  This is my first try using one of these stamps.  I thought I would start small.

I’ll go ahead and tell you about building this card and then I’ll finish with the peony.  This was simple.  Just use the material YOU have.

Card Base

• 110# Neenah Solar White Cardstock cut to 8 1/2  x 5 1/2 inches 
• Martha Stewart Scoring Board – Make a crease to fold in half, creating a top-folding card that is 5 1/2 x 4 1/4 inches.

 

Background

• 80# Neenah Solar White Cardstock – I didn’t want this layer to be too thick and add bulk.
• Cuttlebug Die-Cut & Emboss Machine Provo Craft
• Lawn Fawn Stitched Rectangle Frame Die – Use the largest frame to make an A2 card.
• Sizzix Embossing Folder – I’m sorry I don’t know the name of it.  I’ve had it for years before I started blogging.  Any embossing folder you like will do, if it covers the full page.  TIP:  Put the frame through the die cutting machine before you put the embossing folder through it.  The design will be flattened if you emboss before cutting the frame.

 

Oval for Sentiment

• MSE!  (My Sentiments Exactly) Innies and Outies Stamp Set – I really like this stamp set and want to try to find more Innies and Outies sets.
• MISTI Stamping Tool
• VersaFine Onyx Black Ink Pad
• Recollections Clear Embossing Powder

Stamp first, then cut the oval.  Center the oval around the sentiment and tape it into place before die cutting it.

• Lawn Fawn Stitched Oval Frame Die
• Post-It Tape
• Cuttlebug Die-Cut & Emboss Machine Provo Craft

 

The Flower

• 100# Strathmore Bristol Smooth Surface Paper (Watercolor paper or white cardstock could be used).
• MISTI Stamping Tool
• Alternew Lacy Scrolls Stamp Set
• Memento Ink Pad, Angel Pink – Stamp the flower onto the Bristol paper.
• acrylic block – Spread some ink from a Hero Arts Bubblegum Ink Pad onto the acrylic block.  To the side of the ink, add a drop of water.
• #1 round brush – Wet the brush and dip it into the Bubblegum ink.  Starting at the base of each petal, make small strokes, feathering out.  Also, go around the outside edges of each petal with the Bubblegum ink.  TIP:  Don’t use much water.  Bristol IS NOT watercolor paper!
• heat gun – Use this or let it dry on its own.
• Prismacolor Colored Pencil, Pink – Use the same strokes in the same places as used when painting on the Bubblegum ink.  White – Making small circles or ovals, go over the lighter part of the petals.  Blender – Smooth everything out by going over the top of each petal.  Flower Center – Make dots with Gray, then with Sienna Brown.  TIP:  Wet the tip of the brown pencil, so it makes easier to see dots on the paper.
• Leaves Stamp – Stamp with a Simon Says Stamp Ink Pad, Willow.  On a clean acrylic block, spread some Fern Ink and add a drop of water beside the ink.  Barely wetting a clean brush, starting at the base of each leaf, make strokes coming out like veins.  Dry this naturally or with a heat gun.
• Prismacolor Colored Pencil, Dark Green – Use the same strokes in the same places as used when painting on the Willow ink.  White – Making small circles or ovals, go over the lighter part of the leaves.  Blender – Smooth everything out by going over the top of each leaf.
• Cuttlebug Die-Cut Machine
• Alternew Lacy Scrolls Die Set – Die cut the flower and leaves.  Confession:  After die cutting, I went around the flower and leaves edges with a gray colored pencil.  I didn’t like this, so I had to get my scissors to fussy cut the flower and leaves to get rid of the gray.

 

Putting the Card Together

• Scrapbook Adhesives E-Z Runner Tape – Adhere the background to the card base.  Center and adhere the oval to the background.
• Liquitex Matte Gel Medium – Use this to adhere the flower and leaves to the card front.  Press the flower arrangement down very well with your fingers.  Lay an acrylic block on top of the flower until it dries enough to have a good hold.
