Magnificent Masking

Hi!
The day 4 project at MFT-Camp Create is masking. I know that masking can be achieved in other ways but I liked Laurie Willison's technique so much, that I wanted to do the same. I have no cover plate suitable for the project. A stencil would work well if I had the ink blending tool, as the sponges I use would not give good results on metal stencils. I'm one who does not give up easily when it comes to crafting. How about making my own cover plate?? I found a sticker sheet I'd bought for some school project...I went through my small collection of dies...the MFT die-namics I owned were too intricate. I found a spellbinder die and this is what I made with my own cover plate. Not one but two cards.

Supplies used:
Spellbinder-Banner basics three
My Favorite Things-Thanks so very much (sentiment)
watercolour paper
distress inks
sequins
Additional supplies for 2nd card:
silver acrylic paint
Brilliance silver ink
A sticker sheet same size as the card base was folded in half, the die aligned horizontally and cut. Next the die was placed opposite the first cut to cut the second time. After leaving a short space the same was repeated leaving a broad section which when unfolded was enough space for the sentiment. Folding helped achieve uniformity as well as finish the process quicker. Next, the backing paper was pulled off in sections and adhered the same way on watercolour paper. It was done in sections as the sticker sheet was quite thin and the design was delicate. Finally, colour was added with distress inks, spritzed with water and after drying pulled off the sticker sheet. The card was finished off by adhering it to the card base and adding the sentiment and sequins. Results after die cutting the sticker sheet. The one on the right was used for the first card.
The die cuts on the left in the pic above were used for the second card. They were placed with the straight ends meeting. Silver paint was sprayed on the panel after the spritzed water dried up, then the sticker bits removed. While trimming the coloured panel to the desired size, thin strips were cut off from the narrower side. These were adhered with the 2way glue pen on the panel to cover up ink that seeped through the spaces between the die cuts that met. The sentiment was stamped with dark blue ink using the MISTI. As the cover was accidentally pressed more than required, the sentiment appeared thicker than the original. So, it was re-stamped in silver ink and the shadow effect was achieved. See below.

I'm entering this card into the following challenges...

I hope you liked my disposable cover plate and the sentiment accident. Do let me know if you tried such crazy things.
A warm welcome to my new followers.
Will be back tomorrow with my last project for the camp.

Wow Leanne these are wonderful, and congratulations on your ingenuity in making your own stencil, and then using both parts of it. Wonderful cards as a result.
Blessings
