Hi Stampers,

I made this card for my dad who will have another birthday on June 1st.  For this I thank God!  Daddy has made 91 trips around the sun!  Jumping for joy!  Daddy was a radio/gunner on a B24 during World War II.  He received a letter of commendation from General Douglas MacArthur for his navigation skills.  My dad loves maps.  When Daddy watches the news on television, he has a globe and map beside him to look up places spoken of around the world.  So I just had to buy this map stamp to use when making him a card. 

When you look at all I have written about this card, you may think, “This doesn’t look easy.”  However, it WAS easy to make.  Writing down the directions was harder to do than actually making the card.  Also, there are steps that you can skip.  Here’s how to put this card together:

INSTRUCTIONS

Use a Versa Mark Ink Pad to stamp Hero Arts Map Background Stamp on watercolor paper that is a little larger than the stamp.  Sprinkle the stamped area with white embossing powder.  Use a heat tool to melt the powder.  The raised embossed lines will help keep the watercolors within the borders of the country you are painting. 

Painting was simple.  Use painter’s tape to hold down the stamped piece of watercolor paper on a hardboard panel.  This will help to prevent the paper from warping after adding water.   Using Tim Holtz Distress Ink Pads, a cup of water, a #8 round paintbrush and a rag, I water colored the map, staying within the white embossed rectangular edge.  I used contrasting colors around the border of each country to give it dimension.  Using the heat tool to dry the card panel throughout the water coloring process helped to flatten the painting when it was warping.  Keep adding color until you are satisfied with the results, but you finally have to tell yourself to STOP and move on to the next step.  Allow the paper to dry completely.

 Use medium weight white cardstock to cut out your sentiment.  I used my Cricut Create with the Phrases cartridge to cut out my sentiment.  If you want to emboss the sentiment, do so with the Versa Mark ink and white embossing powder.  I did this but it didn’t make it look any different, so you could skip this step.  Using a brush, glue the sentiment on the card panel with matte gel medium, brushing the entire card panel with the medium.  This part can also be skipped if you don’t want to glaze the card front with the medium.  Let this dry. 

My card needed SOMETHING.  So I brushed clear Wink of Stellar on the countries.  I think this perked up the plain looking card, but you can skip this if you want.  Let this dry. 

Using scissors, trim around the white embossed rectangular frame.  The raised area of the embossing makes this easy to get it straight.

Cut a piece of white fun foam a little smaller than the card panel and glue it to the back of it with a tape runner.  Then glue this to the front of a folded 5.5 X 4.25 inch heavy cardstock using the tape runner.

To finish the card, I wanted to add an embellishment.  So I pulled a package of Tim Holtz Muse Tokens out of my stash, which has the word “LIFETIME” engraved on it.  Tie on a piece of twine and glue on the token with the matte gel medium.  Set something heavy on the token while the glue dries.
