I have seen so many cute felt gardens floating around the internet lately, so I finally gave in and decided to put one together. I decided to tone it down a notch and make this one a more frugal, no sew option that I thought was a bit more realistic for my, ahem, skill set. It is the perfect playtime garden for kids and just in time for the summer season. Here is how you can make your own felt garden craft for kids, that is both budget savvy and simple.
No Sew Felt Garden Craft for Kids:
Here is what you will need:
– Sheets of felt in assorted colors (I used light green, dark green, purple, orange, tan and red. Find a great deal on felt here.)
– Scissors (these are my FAVE fabric scissors)
– Craft glue or hot glue
Simple, right? You can find felt sheets for about .50 cents each at your local craft store, so I think in total I spent maybe $4 on this whole project. Maybe. So to get started, you want to cut out your vegetable shapes. Don’t get crazy here folks. Kids aren’t perfectionists so you don’t have to be either.

Make simple circles, ovals, and triangles to craft the produce and their leafy tops. It really is basic shapes that make up these veggies. You don’t have to get nuts with details. I promise.
A great garden starts with nutrient rich compost. Check out my tutorial for making a mini compost bin here.
After you create your shapes, use craft glue to add the beans to the pods and the tops to the radishes, carrots, tomatoes, and egg plants. A little dab does the trick. You then want to fold the bottom portion of your tan felt upward to create a pocket. Seal the sides with glue. This will the where your child can tuck the veggies in, just like a garden.

I took some leftover green felt and made some squiggles to look like vines and added those into the mix as well. Now, this is nothing fancy. There are plenty of over the top felt gardens out there that I am fawning over, but this one was $4 and I didn’t have to sew a single stitch. If you wanted, you could even add magnets and use it on a fridge. Cute, right?
