Want to hear one of the saddest things ever? I live nowhere near the ocean. There are no evenings on the beach, collecting sea glass and washed up sand dollars. There is no running into the waves, or kids screaming because they got salt water in their eyes. Ok I could do without that last part, but the rest sounds pretty dreamy, right? Well I may not live by the ocean, but I did find an easy way to make my own sea glass right at home. Perfect for nautical themed showers and parties, or even if you just decorate with a nautical twist, this DIY sea glass is easy to make, no stinging eyes required.
Here is how you can make your own DIY sea glass using supplies from your local dollar store.
Supplies needed:
Glass of your choice. I picked out a milk bottle.
White craft glue
Blue and green food coloring (this set is my all time favorite)
Skinny/small foam brush
Small bowl for mixing
Everything you need for your own DIY sea glass can be found at your local dollar store. Heck you may already have this stuff at home.

Now let’s get crafty. First, you want to pour about 1/4 cup of white glue into a bowl. Add in 2 drops of blue, and 2 drops of green food coloring.
Woah! Pretty color, right? Just keep stirring so the color mixes well. If you want your color darker, just add a drop at a time until you get the hue you want. Want it lighter? Add more glue. This part is pretty much trial and error until you get the shade you wish. Want to test the shade out? Just brush a layer onto some clear glass a wait for it to dry. When done it will wipe clean with dish soap and water.
Now, you want to apply the coloring to your glass. For this project I brushed my paint over both the outside and the inside of the vase.
If I knew I would be putting water/flowers inside the vase, I would skip painting the inside. I knew I would just be using twigs, because twigs are free and can be found in my backyard. Oh, and I am cheap.
You won’t really get the sea glass effect until the paint has dried for a few hours. I rushed it a bit when taking this picture, but I was so stinking excited to show you. I am going to find some dried hydrangeas to throw in this baby and then things are really going to get freaking magical.
Why not try making your own DIY sea glass? Sure you miss out on the romantic walk on the beach, but this way you don’t have to worry about stepping on jellyfish. Winning.
