Yellow Flowers

Yellow FlowersYesterday I made a purple card, today I have a yellow one! The colour comes from Double D Challenges‘ yellow challenge. Cupcake Inspirations pattern theme also played a role alongside Craftyhazelnut’s Patterned Paper. I decided to tie in Simon Says Stamp Monday‘s showers or flowers prompt (obviously I went for flowers!) and One Crazy Stamper‘s anything goes. And for my layout I went with the current sketch from Mojo Monday.

I started by finding all my yellow patterned papers and choosing one to use. I then trimmed it to size for my front panel. I had a couple of other papers that seemed suitable, but didn’t coordinate well with the paper I chose, so I decided not to use them for the other components of the card. I did use one for the strip after some consideration. I’m still not convinced it goes properly, but it doesn’t look bad so I guess it can stay.

For the larger rectangle panel I wanted a plain paper because I felt another pattern would look too busy. I considered going with white but felt that would make the top panel (which I knew would be white for stamping on) kind of disappear. I briefly considered yellow but my plain yellow papers are all quite bright and I didn’t feel they would work well. As you can see I decided to go for kraft in the end, and it does work nicely.

My top panel is a small piece of white card. I knew I wanted to stamp flowers onto it, and was initially planning on using my Altenew Wild Hibiscus stamps. I use them all the time though – downside of being a newbie to card making! – and wanted to try something different this time. I looked through my stamps and found the only other flowers I have, which are from the My Mind’s Eye – My Girl set. They’re definitely a very different style to the other flowers! I decided to use different shades for the flowers, stamping the smaller one once in yellow, then again in a darker mustard yellow. I used the big flower between the two and for that I went orange (another downside – limited ink supplies) using Distress Ink in Spiced Marmalade.

Finally I stamped a sentiment. I went for thank you from Technique Tuesday’s I Made This solely because it is a new-to-me set and I wanted to use it. I inked it up with the yellow and a touch of the mustard colour then stamped it onto white card. After cutting the card to size I edged it with the spiced marmalade.

Assembling the card was simply a matter of lining up the layers and using my roller adhesive to stick them in place. I raised the sentiment up on foam tape to add some depth.

Yellow Flowers 2I’m content with this card. I think I prefer a less busy look generally speaking. But in terms of meeting the prompts I feel it works very nicely.

Love,

Lady Joyful
