Hello Dolly

When I was growing up, my mom always made the best homemade everything. She was one to even grind her own flour for fresh bread and make scrumptious strawberry jam. Although, desserts were saved for Sunday dinners, holidays or special occasions. (She did a great job keeping the sugar at bay.)
Hello dollies were cookie bars we used to make once in awhile. But, they didn't last long because everyone in the house would take a big bite! That is how wonderfully good they are. More importantly ...they are incredibly easy to make. My son and I made a batch together. He did a great job. They were soooo good! So, I thought I share the goodness and pass on this yummy recipe.
Place a package of graham crackers in a large zip loc bag.
Use your fist or a rolling pin to smash the crackers into crumbs.
Transfer crumbs into a 9x13 greased pan.
Then go ahead and crush another package of graham crackers
in the ziploc bag and transfer the crumbs into the glass pan.
Melt one stick of butter and drizzle over the top of the crumbs.
Gently mix it up and pat down into the pan.
Pour one can of condensed milk
all over the graham cracker crumbs.
Cover that layer with semi sweet chocolate chips.
Then cover the top with shredded coconut.
Bake uncovered in a 350' oven for 30 min.
or until the coconut is lightly toasted.
Cool to warm and cut to serve.
Delicious!!!

  2. They must have been an 80's popular family recipe. I hadn't made them in quite awhile. I haven't the faintest idea why...they are so yummy!
