The Joyful Soul Creates

I initially made this card because I saw a tutorial for a shaker card and I wanted to give it a go. Then when I spotted the Paper Players‘ up, up and away challenge the very next day I knew I had to enter it.

 

As you may be able to guess from the name, the up, up and away challenge is to make a clean and simple card (is this CAS enough? I’m not certain!) that involves any airborne object. This is the inspiration graphic they provided:

I used the hot air balloon stamp from this set. I used colouring pencils to colour it in, and then fussy cut it. I chose a bright blue paper as the background, and stuck the balloon on to that.

Next I fussy cut a lot of clouds from some decorative paper I have. Then it was just a case of putting the shaker part together. Ideally I would have used acetate for the window, but as I don’t have any I instead used some clear plastic from packaging. The card base was a ready-made window card, and I used double-sided tape to stick the plastic down. I then put foam tape around the edges of the window and put the clouds in ready. Finally I stuck the backing piece (the blue with the balloon adhered) onto the back of the foam tape to complete the shaker.

I decided I wanted to add a sentiment, and went with just the words “dream” and “fly” from the same stamp set. I stamped them onto some white card and adhered them with dimensionals.

I also stamped inside. A very simple “happy birthday” in the same blue as the outside stamps, with an overlay of silver clouds to tie the whole thing together.

I’m fairly happy with how the card turned out. It was fun to play with the new-to-me technique. It didn’t work quite as well as I would have hoped – the clouds are perhaps a bit too lightweight to shake properly. Nevertheless it turned out well enough.
