Valentine Shadow Box

This is my second blog post today.  I've been lucky enough to get some extra time to spend in my craft room (AKA my "happy place").  I am still in the Valentine's Day spirit so I thought I would create a Valentine shadow box, using Tim Holtz Flip Frame.

When I attended the Carson Stamp Show last Fall, I was able to see a Christmas shadow box that Tim  Holtz made and I was inspired to try one of my own.  Richele Christensen also offered a class on a similar Christmas shadow box.  You can check out hers here.

The Flip Frame can easily be turned into a shadow box because there is a ridge on the back side where the box can be glued into the frame with hot glue.

That ridge is perfect for nesting the box in.  I just filled it with hot glue and set it in the ridge.

To make the frame look a little more vintage, I painted on some Victorian Velvet Distress Paint and then dabbed on some Mushroom Alcohol Ink.

The opening of the frame is 6 1/8 inches X 4 inches.  I wanted a 2 inch deep box, so I cut a piece of chipboard 10 1/8 X 8 and scored it 2 inches from all sides.  Since the chipboard is so thick, I had to score it with my craft knife.

I cut out each of the corners and folded the box up.

I then covered both sides of the box with paper from the Wallflower Paper Stash and reinforced the outside seams with some tissue tape. 

Once the box was covered, I glued it to the back of the frame with hot glue.  I then started preparing the embellishments.  For the heart on the outside, I cut a heart using the Sizzix Tim Holtz Heartfelt die, painted it with Candied Apple Distress Paint.  Once the paint was dry, I covered it with Clear Rock Candy Distress Crackle Paint.  I let it dry overnight.

Once it was dry and crackled, I glued on an Idea-ology arrow tied with some red twine.  I added a crown that I cut with the Heart Wings die from metallic Craft Core card stock.

For the "vase", I used an Idea-ology Trophy Cup.  I used some wire cutters to cut off the handles.  I painted it with some Victorian Velvet Distress Paint and then dabbed some Mushroom Alcohol ink to give it an vintage look.  I added some moss and some flowers that I cut from the Mini Tattered Florals and Tattered Pinecone dies.  Next to the flower vase, there is an Idea-ology Corked Glass Vial with a little bit of red glitter inside.

Just behind the vase, there is a little doily peeking out.  That is from one of Tim Holtz's new doily dies.  It was actually cut at CHA and was given to me as the demo station was being cleaned up at the end of the day.  It was cut from some new plain tissue wrap.  I held on to it, knowing I would find a use for it.  The other half of it is underneath the Letterpress letters. 

I used Idea-ology Letterpress, painted with Victorian Velvet and Candied Apple Distress Paint.

For the frame, I used an Idea-ology Foundry Frame.  I put a small piece of mirrored paper behind it, dabbed the mirror piece and the frame with some Mushroom Alcohol Ink.  In the center is a glittered heart I found at my local craft store.

I used some Crinkle Ribbon colored with Victorian Velvet Distress Stain to make a bow.  I used an Enameled Tag with a phrase from Small Talk Occasions, as well as a small silver heart from my stash.  I attached the tag and the heart with a Loop Pin.

 For the little hearts at the right, I used some of the hearts I cut out with the Heartfelt die.  I painted them red, covered them with Ranger Multi-Medium Matte, and dipped them into Vintage Platinum Distress Glitter Dust.

I really love the Tim Holtz Flip Frames.  I plan to make a mini album using one of them but so far I have only used the to make shadow boxes.
