Hi Everyone! Today I’m sharing a journal page in tribute to Alan Rickman: Better known as Severus Snape to our family. We are huge Harry Potter fans, and I was so sad to hear that Alan Rickman died a few days ago. I’ve been obsessed with mixed media lately, and thought this was a good opportunity to share something from my journal. Also, I will be posting this to the Simon Says Stamp Blog Monday Challenge.

There is too much to tell you about the process in this page, so I will just touch upon the basics. I began by spraying Dylusions, blended black soot Distress Ink around the outside, and dribbled/splattered water. Then I used WPlus9 Defining Words, Hero Arts background, and Tim Holtz’ clock stamp with black VersaFine ink for background interest. Next I sealed the whole page with Mod Podge, and used my finger with Gelatos to smooth colors onto the background. Altenew’s To the Moon helped create the moon with the gelatos as well. More Mod Podge for sealing! I’ve learned that you have to seal after each water-based layer or everything reacts and it becomes a mess! (Well, as mixed media is messy, it’s the kind of messy you don’t want.) I’m using Mod Podge instead of gesso, because it’s what I have. LOL!

To add lots of dimension, I mixed fine glitter with Ranger transparent gloss texture paste, and stenciled it with TH Rays. I used TH Sizzix Alterations thinlits to create a stencil and then added modeling paste to the journal page. After it dried overnight, it looked so pretty! I love how this came out!  I used more gelatos mixed with water to paint the modeling paste. Added sentiments from TH “friend” thinlits, and then splattered DI paints. I embossed the TH butterfly, sponged with DI, then used Vintaj foil for interest, and used foam dots to adhere it.

I used a TH trim aged with DI paint and Adirondack alcohol ink to highlight the ‘always’ sentiment, and foam-taped the other TH words.

So…what do you think? My ode to the villain-who’s-truly-a-hero, Severus Snape. Thank you Alan Rickman for bringing this character out of the books and into our hearts … Always.
