Hi, I'm Kat and I live in Melbourne with my three boys who very graciously put up with my craft addiction. I'm now blogging over at craftaholickat.blogspot.com.au. Please swing by and say hello.
Over the weekend I made a birthday card for my little sister Susannah. For this card I played along with the mixed media card challenge for the first time. The theme for this month’s challenge is ‘wings’, with an option to include foil as an additional element - http://themixedmediacardchallenge.blogspot.com.au/2015/05/mmcc-11-wings.html. Here is my finished card I made with papers from the Kaisercraft ‘Dream Big’ collection:
The main feature of the my mixed media card is a dress I created using border punches and a Sizzix Fabi dress die. I used a border punch to create strips of paper in different tints of green and layered them to create an ombre-style skirt. I used a coordinating piece of paper for bodice and added some machine stitching and rhinestones for extra embellishment.
In line with the wings theme, I incorporated a few butterflies. The large butterflies were cut from foil paper using a Kaisercraft die and the small butterflies were created with stamps and white embossing powder.
The wings theme is also incorporated into the background paper. I chose a pretty text paper with lots of nice phrases, including ‘dare to fly”.
I finished the card with some more machine stitching around the border and some sequins. I also folded the layers of the dress up to give it more dimension. I love the finished result, and my sister did too. :)
