Card making

Owl for a challenge.

I had to make a card for my Aunties Birthday later this month and as she likes owls I found out a stamp set I got free with a magazine some years ago. I had always planned to use it to have a go at paper piecing and thought this was the ideal opportunity. I love the sentiments that came in this set “Have a hoot on your birthday” is the one I chose to use here, but there is also “All of a twitter”.

I would like to enter this into Simon Says Stamp Wednesday challenge which this week is Lets Get Sentimental.

I used some scraps of printed paper that I used in another project. I stamped the owl and the wings onto this paper and cut it out. I then stamped the owl onto some Neenah desert storm card and cut out the stomach and eyes and beak.

I layered up Neenah desert storm and the printed paper in the background and then used my tonic threaded scalloped circle dies to die cut a doily out of copier paper. I cut off one edge to fit onto the backing paper. I then used my circle dies to draw a circle onto white card (the inside of the die) and bigger circle (the outside of the die) onto neenah desert storm card. I then cut these out to make my circle mat and layers.

The owl was stamped again onto the white card before sticking my cut out pieces onto this card. I then used my Ranger blending tool and antique linen distress ink to ink around the edge of the white circle and to give some shading under the owls feet. I stamped the sentiment onto a scrap of neenah card and matted it onto white paper. I finished off the card by using a brown stabilo point 88 pen to draw faux stitching around the craft circle and sentiment. This tyed in with the stitching on the owl.
