A couple of years ago, I jumped on the Elf on the Shelf bandwagon, getting Miss Moira one of her own to visit the house on the days leading up to Christmas. It was supposed to be a friendly reminder that someone was always watching, but it quickly turned into a fun game for me. When speaking to others who have an Elf that visits, I have found out that he (or she) is as much for us the adults as he (or she) is for the kids.
Last year I documented every visit from our Elf, Goley Soley (named by Moira in her rhyming word phase) and shared them on Instagram. I myself am always looking for some inspiration, so I thought I’d share them with you today! I personally keep a running list on my phone of ideas I see, think of, or want to try so that I always have something to fall back on. Here we go…Goley Soley 2012!
As you can see, some activities are a bit mischievous and some are done in kindness. And we always end his stay with hugs and kisses from the kids on Christmas Eve…right before Santa comes to take him home.

I’m new to the idea of Elf on the Shelf, but it sounds super cute! Is there a link up for it or where did the idea originate?
You can grab an elf and the book that describes the tradition at Barnes & Noble, Target…any of those stores. The story book is really cute and kid friendly. The rest is the imagination!
My son’s kindergarten teacher had this in their classroom last year and all the kids loved it!
That’s a cool idea…I love how magical the kids think it is. A nice reminder of the wonder of the season!
