After pasting the html to my blog I realized I entered the incorrect start time. I edited the time on your site. Do I need to repaste the script, or will it automatically change the start time?
You do not need to change the code in any way. These settings are saved on our servers and applied when the collection is rendered
I copied and pasted the html in that mode but when I preview my new post I don't see the icon. I am putting a new post on our blogspot and setting the post time for tomorrow.
Blogger preview wipes out the script. So, unfortunately, you cannot see the button through blogger's preview. You can see it outside your post though, through your InLinkz dashboard by clicking on the name of the collection (or the preview link underneath it). This is for you to make sure that the collection is how you like it. You can add/remove links there and get a feel of how it displays.
Just wondering if you can use the same html in more than 1 place on my blog?
Yes, but it should not appear more than once on the same page because this would create a conflict between the two collections, not allowing you to enter links
When the collection expires, does it remain up?
Yep!. It just displays a 'Collection closed' instead of the blue froggy button!
can we do this with typepad?
Yes, InLinkz works on any blog/site that accepts script tags, displaying a full link list and on others that do not accept script tags (e.g. wordpress.com) it displays an image that leads you to a page to view and add links
Can you tell me what exactly what the number for 'Views' and 'Link Clicks' mean, what exactly does this track?
Views of a collection are the times this collection has been shown. It is roughly the same number as your post views. Every time someone sees the collection, this number is updated.
Link Clicks are the sum of the clicks each link in the collection has received. It is a measure on how much the users click the links or just add their own and leave.
For example, if you have 50 links and 100 link clicks, then you have very lazy submitters as they are only putting their own link and not go to other blogs. This is a real eye opener. Another example is eg having 1000 collection views and 10000 link clicks which means that each reader visits an average of 10 of your links.
If you want to view link clicks in more detail, you should go to the 'view x clicks' link of the collection. There you will see exactly how many clicks each link has received.
I have the code copied, but not sure where to put it.
you can insert the code wherever you wish the widget to appear. You can insert it e.g. inside your post so it will appear exactly there. Usually, when someone is running a challenge, they put it just before the end of their post so it is the last thing that it is displayed.
I am not familiar with the term 'memes' and the 'date' under it.
Meme is a recurring collection that you want to have its settings saved. Each time you create a collection based on a meme, the default settings (size, character allowance, dates etc) are based on the original collection saved as meme.
E.g. if you have a collection starting always on Tuesdays on 5:40pm, you can save it as a meme and next time, create it as easily as just selecting the meme and clicking create collection.
would there be a cost to have a linkz of just thumblinks without text? Is there a maximum # of thumbnails before a collection closes? Is there a time limit on the link being open? Can it be used for b
Using thumblinks (whether they include text or not) requires and extended account. You can create one on your free account (to make sure it works for you like you want it to). If there is need for only one thumbnail collection, you can use the free one. Creating another, requires an extension of your account.
Normally there is no maximum number of entries before the collection closes. There is a setting though, if you want to close your collection after a specific number of entries (eg. after 20 links, you want no more participants). There is also a safety limit of 9999 links per collection. But no one has reached this yet :) These apply to both free and extended accounts.
Collections created now, can be closed as late as 12/2012. When that time comes, you will be able to set it to close up to next year's 12th month (12/2013). So, it is virtually everlasting. (this applies to both free and extended accounts)
Yes, it can be used as a blog hop. You can put a link to your post or even the description of the collection that will enable other users to get the exact same code. You also have the advantage of displaying your own text (as a description) to other people's blog. This works exceptionally well with affiliate links blog-hopping around other people's blogs but you are the one that gets the referrals.
Sharing InLinkz accounts
InLinkz accounts are personal. This means that there is no capability of having a team work on a collection without all of them knowing your password. You can of course notify them on link insertions but this is all.
This is done because letting people know your password actually multiples the possibility of human errors. So. if you are going to let other people know your password, please make sure that they are aware of how InLInkz works so as to avoid mistakes.
If you share your password with your team members, it is wise to change it beforehand if this password is used elsewhere too. Please make sure that your teammembers are aware of InLinkz's usage and please do not allow your team members to use your account for their private blogs/collections.
By doing so, you accept that InLinkz's responsibility does not cover any possible human errors.
Inlinkz has the right to suspend accounts that are used in blogs not owned by the subscribed member
Users complain that InLinkz states their URL is already present
Is your collection very wide and hides some entries?
I am having problems with the text linkys. You can add links to the linky but can't view them. I have tried all of the codes and none of them are working. It only shows how many links have been entere
To display the links, please go to your dashboard and click on 'edit collection' on each one of the text collections. Then, check 'display entries'. If this is not checked, it hides the entries and displays only their count.
The link button does not appear, nor do the thumbnail pictures, only names and are numbered numerically. I need to know what I need to do to make this functional again.
You have probably disabled pictures coming from inlinkz to be displayed on your browser. This is why you don't see the thumbnails. If i am right, this can be changed from the security settings of your browser. There should be an option to block images. You will have to remove inlinkz.com from the
list of blocked sites.
On firefox, this is under tools->Options->content->exceptions
I've created my collection and posted it like specified but the Froggy Blue Link button isn't showing up. What am I doing wrong?
Your collection is probably set to start in the future so no blue froggy will appear until then..
If the start date was entered by mistake, you can still change it now. Whatever change you make now, can always be undone
most of our participants can't see the pictures of the entries of our latest challenge
You have set a fixed layout of 3 columns. But I can only see (and probably your readers) only 2 of them and a small bit of the third. InLinkz does follow the layout (styles / tables / css) of the blog it is put on, so you can either set your columns to two (or try neatfit to see if it is laid out better) or change the stylesheet of your blog.
You can try these changes even now the collection is running (from the dashboard -> edit collection). It will not harm your links.
I put in an inlinkz contest on one of my blog pages and it reflowed my entire blog layout and killed my right side bar
There are two possibilities for something like this to happen.
one is that the script was placed between another tag that should be closed first. Try placing the script tags somewhere else. Check the preview on the dashboard to see how it should be displayed.
Another possibility is that you have entered some invalid HTML in the description field which from what I see at least, it is not the case.
I changed the timezone to the London/U.K. one and that is what it displays. It always ends several hours later than expected so is the time actually working on Pacific time or something else than GMT
You will have to go edit the start and end times of the collections you created before making the change. The collections do not know you changed your timezone yet.
No matter what I do, I do not have a little blue link at where it says post.
Most probable reason is that the collection has not opened yet!
Does it state "Submissions start....."?
This means that the blue pill button will be displayed when the time comes.
This one surfaces usually on Daylight Savings Time changes (DST) where users expect their collections to open up one hour earlier.
HEEELP! My links have dissapeared on my blog.... !!!!!!!!!!!
Right click on your blog and select "view source". Then search for "inlinkz" (without the quotes).
If you cannot find the script that it is upposed to be there then it has been remved.
Did you by any chance edit it ? Your editor might have wiped the script tags.
If you get the code from your dashboard (%u201Cget script%u201D), you can put it back and all your links will be there.
One blogger says there is a red X beside her entry, which is not visible to me, the host blog. She says the X says Delete--really?
Each user that submits a link, is given the choice to delete and re-enter her link if the appropriate choice is made when you created the collection.
This red X is there, visible only to the user that submitted the link, just in case she wants to delete her own link. No other participant can see this.
If she checks the collection from another browser, she will find out that the red %u201Cx%u201D is not there. It displays only on the browser that the link was submitted from.
This goes for each and every user that submits a link to your collection.
i am running a contest with voting enabled. several people have reported that inlinkz is not allowing them to vote.
To avoid multiple voting from the same person (computer) we log the voting IPs and forbid repeated votes from the same IP. When the voting feature was first available, we did the same check with cookies which proved somewhat (a lot!) problematic since anyone could wipe his cookies and vote again or even switch browser and again, vote again.
The IP logging method is used from almost all applications that somehow enable voting in the net. The drawback is that sometimes a whole household with say 3 computers, is seen as a single IP. So if someone from the house votes, the others cannot.
Is there a way to track the IPs for voting? There is one entry that we're suspicious of and other readers have emailed me with suspicions as well. It's gone from 70 to over 150 overnight a couple days
On your dashboard, you can go to moderate collection and you will see a button instead of just the votes number. if you click it, it will open a new page with the IPs of the votes of the selected link and you can sort them by clicking the table header to check if there are multiple or similar. Moreover if you click on a link, it will take you to a page where you can see where it originated from (geolocate).
