Return to Mayberry
You’re too young to remember
Days on this stage, now empty
Mitch Jayne and the talents
Of homespun music,
Tales of ‘downhome country’
The Dillards singing
With Andy Griffith,
A whole different world.
Music of the mountains
I’m all that’s left behind!
Except in scattered pockets
Of Appalachia and the Ozarks
Where that lost time lives on.
I hope there are more than just a few pockets left. Poignant.
thank you. Around here, thankfully, we can still hear the rhythm picked out on the bass, the plinking banjo, guitar and singing fiddles play at varied friends and relatives homes.
Much of the music came with the first settlers here , and remains a lovely tradition.
Good little hit of nostalgia here!
thank you
Hi Mary,
Unfortunately, I’m not that young, and I live in the Ozarks, so I can reallly relate to your story. I think Andy, Barney and even Gomer would too! Ron
thanks, I’m happy to be that old and knew Mitch and the Dillards as friends before they got famous.;)
Dear Mary,
Once more you live up to your “oldentimes” handle. Nostalgic and picturesque.
Shalom,
Rochelle
thank you Rochelle. Really, the Dillards were ‘neighbors’ of ours back in the day.
Now THAT’S something! The music on Andy’s show was a lot of fun because my mom had uncles who lived during the civil war and they taught her some of the tunes of that period that Andy would play. Keep going!!! Nice work!
thank you, it is the music I grew up with
Like the scattered pockets, like something you can get lost in
thank you
Can’t say I recognize most of the names except Andy Griffith, but that’s enough! Quite a lot left behind that we’ll all miss, no matter where we come from.
So true.
Dear Mary,
Youyare part of the voices that are keeping other voices alive through your beautiful piece. Very well done.
Aloha,
Doug
Thank you Doug
Like the nostalgia here.
thank you
I am not too old for a lot of it. I certainly remember the Dollards.
