Happy Hanukkah!

As always, Pinky comes home asking for new things to learn more about. This week they talked a little about the Hanukkah celebration. She came back home so excited and asking me to put everything together in order to start celebrating Hanukkah on Saturday. I was like AHHHH??? Baby, we don’t celebrate Hanukkah and, as a matter of fact, Mommy doesn’t knows anything about it. (Oh my! Mommy doesn’t knows everything!) Well, I had to get my beloved computer and start searching (quickly) anything about this holiday.

When she saw me with the computer, she asked me: Are you looking for it at the Internet??? HAHAHA….

When I was her age…we used to look for things in the huge Encyclopedia we had…page by page….hahaha

So, here is what we have been learning about Hanukkah, kind of Montessori-inspired:

Craft: The star of David ornament

Great fine motor, pattern, counting and shapes activity!

We used beads and pine cleaners. Made two triangles and connected them together with more pine cleaners. Easy.

She won! This was so great for math: learning about taking half of whatever was inside the pot whenever we got a hey.

Metal insets arts

Dreidel and Star of David art with shapes: Using the homemade metal insets. Wao! I made these a way long ago and never got to use them with Pinky. Well, they are always available on the shelf but she was never interested until today. I made these with cardboard. Easy and cheap.

This is the one I made since forgot to take a picture of Pinky’s one.

Dreidel. We used the square, rectangle and triangle cardboard metal insets.

Pinky’s excellent job!

We read a book I bought a long time ago to include it in our Europe Continent Box. She was the one to remind me about this book and other Hanukkah related things we have inside this box. Oh, my smarty little girl is always amazing me!

Pinky very concentrated!

The fine job still waiting for the glue to dry up.

I got the inspiration from here, however, we just had macaroni available so we painted them with different colors. She was happy.

These are the fun things we have been doing so far. I think we will do more since we still have 7 more days for Hanukkah’s holiday!

Also, here’s a great video from Sesame Street about Hanukkah.
