Ice Storm
No power, no phone! Last time it was
Six days before the road was cleared of fallen trees.
Yes, I’m afraid! But we have food and fuel,
Light the kerosene lamp, throw some wood in the stove,
Watch it fall, listen to limbs crack and break.
What devastation will daylight bring?
The girls and I will be okay for a while.
What’s this? I see lights coming up the road.
Oh no, it’s the ‘crazy hermit’!
Is that a gun?
Do I dare open the door?
Ice storms. Hate them. We went without power for a week in 2002. Thankfully no one showed up with a gun. Nice job, Mary.
So far no one has here, either. ZBut I have one too, just in case.
I hate ice storms too!
Cuts close to home, not mine, thankfully, but so many places in the east except, hopefully, the hermit with the gun. Might deter looters, though. Good job.
Hi Mary,
Better get out your own gun to be safe! Or maybe the hermit is bringing hot soup! Ron
that would be nice
I am sure the hermit just want a little company, ice storms tend to do that to hermits.
Could be!
It’s not a gun, he’s jsut happy to see someone. nice story, Mary.
Aloha,
Doug
rofl! Thank you Doug!
My heart goes out to you, hope you soon get some power , just stay warm and safe. Thanks for sharing this, enjoy your blog. kay
Kay, this is just a story, thankfully we have not had a bad ice storm or power loss here in a while. Ice storms are not one of my favorites.
We are not prepared for this kind of weather anymore. Time was when we could stay inside, watch the fire in the fireplace, cook on the gas range and wait for it to melt….now, no logs on the fire, no gas range and it isn’t melting…global warming anyone?
Yes, things like that can get your attention in a hurry.
hopefully the hermit was just checking on you! Good story
Wonder what that silly hermit is doing out in the storm? And with a gun? Interesting.
