I finally had time to take pictures of the Top Secret Desk Chair that goes with the Top Secret Desk ! My sweet daughter has been around every time I wanted to pull it out last week. It wouldn't be top secret if she saw me taking pictures now would it?
She did however see the seat of the chair flipped upside down last week when I was stapling the fabric to it outside on the garden table. So she knows something is up and I quickly shewed her back in the house and she started crying because she was afraid she spoiled her surprise but I hugged her and told her not to worry she didn't spoil anything~
So like most of my creative friends I forgot the pre-disassemble pictures BUT you are in luck I found a picture on the Internet of the hideous thing :
Now this was my office chair about 10 years ago, possibly more.
My mom and I took it apart at work and I spray painted all the metal parts and left the brown plastic on the legs because that is where she will more than likely prop her feet as I did when I used the chair. We are feet propping kind of girls in this house.
Note: The water damaged floor, I told you our roof leaks at work!
Covering the chair wasn't too hard. There was four screws in the backrest, when those were removed the metal back popped right off. Then I just cut the fabric and tucked it around the existing ugly brown 'leather'.
The seat was a little harder and I had every intention of making a pleated skirt around the edge of the seat and then I realized that it would never be even once I started stapling the paisley on the seat and pulling it tight. There are somethings you just have to accept and realize that it would be more of a pain to do and go ahead and adjust your original idea.
The stapling was hard and I used my hammer alot (that is what got the better of my daughter curiosity)
All that hammering I was doing to get the staples smooth on the underside.
It looks a heck of alot better than before.
~I am happy with the finished product and I think she will be too~
The finished product:
So what do ya think? I love it and it will be precious in her room along with the TOP SECRET DESK!

D, you might check on a piece of plexiglass for the top of her desk....might not be quite as pricey as real glass!
ReplyDeleteLove ya....
Thanks C, David also mentioned plexiglass too, just not sure it will hold up but we may have to go with that until I can save up for the glass.

ReplyDeleteI love how the chair came out. It is so pretty. how do you spray paint and not get the paint drop marks? I can't seem to not have those
ReplyDeleteDanielle,
ReplyDeleteI do lots and lots of very thin coats and let them dry in between.
Fantastic looking chair. Love the bright pink color to brighten up the room.
