Rants and Randomness

Another update on our booth at the antique mall: we are almost done! Yay!!!

Our tired feet and aching bodies prove we how hard we have worked the past few days! But it is almost done. We have just a few more things to put in and some tweaking to do. We really like our purse display and how colorful it looks.

Our Christmas table at the window is eye-catching. Lots of people stopped by all morning as they walked up and down the sidewalk.

I know these pictures aren’t the best, but I hope you get the idea. I mentioned the little evergreen trees earlier, and I think they add a nice touch to our Christmas table. We also added red tapers to the crystal candlesticks and red votive candles to the votive holders.

I brought in some Christmas napkins and napkin rings, and we put some Christmas ornaments in the milkglass fruit bowl. This picture I took from outside. It’s not the greatest photograph since I really don’t know how to take a pic through a window, but I wanted you to see what a person on the sidewalk would see.

Another pic through the window. Unfortunately, you see the reflection of cars also. But I hope you get the idea.

We also wanted to do a harvest/fall table since the grand opening will be the first weekend in November. I found this pilgrim at a thrift shop, and really wasn’t sure about him. But once I got the table set up, I really liked the way he looked.

We put brass accents and harvest colored napkins on this table.  I added some acorn bowls that I had originally purchased for myself, but ended up not being happy with them.

My friend did a super job with the jewelry! She backed the shelf with colored shelf liner from Wal-Mart, then put nails (this part was much harder than it looks) in to hang the jewelry on. We really like the way the color makes the merchandise pop.

She is also good at arranging the merchandise on the shelves, as you can see. We tried to put a lot of the Christmas merchandise where it is noticable since this is the Christmas open house that we are getting ready for.

Some of the nicer crystal and milk glass went on this shelf. Do you see those first edition John Grisham and Pat Conroy books on the bottom shelf? Two of my favorite authors!

Not wanting to lose any space, we also hung some merchandise on the back of one of the shelves.

We also used a couple of the ends of shelves for merchandise. So are you wondering about the title of the post ? Where is the rant? Well, when we decided to drive the nails in the back of the shelf, we had to move the breakable things off.  Afterwards, I began to hand her the things to put back on the shelf.

I suddenly realized that two vintage juice glasses weren’t there! I looked everywhere, but nowhere to be found.

We actually did make a few sales yesterday, even though we technically aren’t open yet. Even though the section of the building that we are in is not open to the public yet, people were still wandering in and out. She even sold a couple of purses and I sold a decorative hand towel.

So I went downstairs and asked to look at our tickets. Since we had only a very few sales, it only took me a minute or so to check.

The juice glasses had not been sold. Someone had shoplifted, and we weren’t even open yet! I am really upset about it.

Not upset about the loss of money, although that is certainly not good. I’m upset about people. Why in the world would someone do that? If you asked me, I would give it to you. No $3 glass is worth you losing your reputation or my losing my faith in mankind.

I don’t get it. Why would someone steal two glasses? Everything else was overlooked and those two glasses were targeted.

Dear Thief,

Congratulations! You were successful in ripping off my two $3 juice glasses.  I’m sure you walked out of the Central Mississippi Flea Market with your head held high and your pockets full.

Not only did you steal from a simple flea market booth, but you also stole from a brand new business owner who has never done anything like this before.

For weeks, her stomach has been in knots and she has lost hours of sleep over this new business. You see, she has been thinking about this type of venture for almost twenty years, and finally took the plunge, went out on a limb, whatever trite expression you want to use.

Only to have a lousy, dishonest person who wanted two free juice glasses spoil the whole experience for her. But that’s o.k. She will find it in her heart to forgive and move on. It might take her awhile, but she will. Because she is a Christian, and that is what Christ has called her to do. You, on the other hand, will have to face Him someday. It won’t be pretty because even though she does not know who you are, He does. Sleep well.

Sincerely,

Beverly

P.S. I hope your juice glasses break.

Loved seeing your table displays. I have those aCorn bowls, they were from Pfaltzgraf. I remember being so happy to get them for 2.00! We used to have an outlet near here.
Good luck with your new venture!
