The temps have been a little nicer lately so I wanted to do something outside with the girls for our project this week.
We had a ton of little pieces of sidewalk chalk left over from our summer and I wanted to figure out a way to use them up without scraping our fingernails off on the concrete.

The only “recipes” I found make the paint with flour and food coloring, but I really wanted to use the chalk we already had first, so we tried something and just hoped for the best.

So first, we seperated by color, put the pieces in a bag, and crushed them up with a hammer. (Okay, I did the crushing, much to Susannahs chagrin.)

Then we just poured the powder into a container and mixed water in until we had a thin paint.

Gave the girls some cheap-o paintbrushes and let them go nuts.
And they definitely did. As usual.

It actually worked pretty well. I didn’t get all of the little pieces ground up as finely as I should have so the bottom of the container was kind of….chunky.
But whenever we ran low on a color I just added more water and mixed well, so we ended up using most of it up anyway.

The girls had fun, we had a nice time outside in the breeze (and hot sun), and our patio is now a wild kaleidoscope of color.
