Sunny Breakfast Tablescape

Good Morning (or Evening as the case may be), and how are you today? I'm happy to have survived my trip, and aside from being a bit sleep deprived, all is well here. I trust things are well with you, too. :-)

Today I'd like to share a tablescape that I'm also posting for Tablescape Thursday with my friend Susan at her blog, Between Naps on The Porch. Join me, if you will, for breakfast which just so happens to be my favorite meal of the day...

Today's tablescape came together with some things I had on hand and a couple of things I didn't, like this black and white stripe bowl I found at Marshall's...

I filled it with white Alstroemeria Lilies from Publix because these flowers have staying power and are well priced...

And I picked up these black and white runners at Marshall's because they match some of our china...

The runners are quilted and remind me of comfortable pajamas or my favorite childhood robe in their poofiness...

I prefer using runners because they work better than typical square placemats on a round table, and I also prefer to use criss-crossed runners for visual interest...

Speaking of visual interest, I like the fact that in between the words on the plates, there are dots echoing the polka dots on the runners...

And I added polka dots in reverse (white on black) as butter knives...

In addition to the dots, I could not resist these whimsical salt and pepper shakers found at Home Goods...

I think they are fun to have around when munchkins are dining with you, but you have to watch these little guys closely as they are fairly mischievous cohorts...

And like to hop around from place...

To place...

All he needs in this next shot is a patch over his eye and a scarf on his noggin, and he's ready to sail with Jean Lafitte, Erroll Flynn, or Johnny Depp (take your pick)! ;-)

Returning to more serious tablescaping matters, do you see that other pop of yellow in the foreground of this next shot?

That would be a yellow check napkin ring I've had for quite some time...

The yellow and white check napkin ring combined with the little yellow ramekin...

A dish that I would use for baked garlic cheese grits (I'm Southern!)...

Or a killer souffle...

Each echo the yellow color of the Alstroemeria Lilies...

Just as these white plates, Nantucket by Wedgwood, echo the white in the flowers...

I added these white cups and saucers that resemble sea anemones and are a knock-off a Tiffany pattern...

Along with a matching juice pitcher...

In order to mix it up a little...

Then these sugared stirrers were added for fun...

The flatware with the twist on its shank...

Reflects the curvy edges of the runners...

As seen here...

The French glasses, which you could use for breakfast...

Or lunch...

Are the perfect size for a delicious glass of Florida's Natural Orange Juice (being a Floridian, this is my juice of choice)...

Hmmmm... what's that silver thing I spy on the horizon, just to the left of the centerpiece?

Do you see it there?

Still can't see it?

Let's move in closer...

Why, it looks like a gondola...

It is a gondola with a gondolier!

And he's poling this way...

See...

Wonder what that busy fellow's doing there...

Oh, see those racks on his gondola...

Those would be for toast...

Did you guess?

I thought so...

He was a very unique gift, and somehow I don't think there are many like him around, do you? Or have you, perchance, spotted another???

And because he is a man of sterling personality, Mr. Gondolier wants to join me in saying:

Good Morning, Sunshine...

I love the way you brighten the things in your path...

And how you come dancing through the window...

Hopping about...

From place...

To place...

To place...

While caressing...

Each...

And every...

Object...

Along your path...

And making each morning...

Happier...

And brighter...

For you having touched it...

With your smile!

And that, folks, is a wrap! Thanks for visiting me today, and I look forward to visiting you, too. I hope you'll join me as I pop over to see Susan and her friends for Tablescape Thursday by clicking HERE. Thanks, Susan, for hosting!

Warmly,

Mrs. Magpie (Sheila)

Oh, I love this table! I don't know what to comment on first! Well, let's see... love the black butter knives. And the black and white striped bowl, holding the flowers, is to die for. And your yellow accents? Perfect! Really, everything about this table is warm and beautiful. Great job!
Best,

Sheila, this is one of the prettiest tables I've ever seen. I love everything about it. Love the pops of yellow, and those s/p shakers are the cutest! The striped bowl full of flowers is just lovely - they are my favorite fresh flowers for the house too. They seem to last forever! Waking up to breakfast at this table would set a person up for a great day! Kat

How pretty, Shelia! I think black & white with a touch of yellow is such a classic combination. Cute little lettered plates...nice score!

I love your polka-dotted runners, too. Such a fun attitude to them & they go beautifully with your darling butter knives.
Your Nantucket by Wedgwood is gorgeous & makes the perfect backdrop for everything else.

The ONLY time I've ever sat at a table where the toast was in a rack like that (not a gondola...just a plain one) was when we were in Scotland. We were having breakfast in the hotel dining room, overlooking the Atlantic & could see an island off in the distance. I can still picture it!!!!! Thanks for jogging that special memory!

What a wonderful tablescape, Sheila! I love the color combination and those smiley faces...so cheerful at breakfast! I have to admit that I was peeking in your hutch in the background! lol Love your whites! That fabric came from a local shop, so I will see if they still have some if you would like. Last time I checked, they were out, though. :-( Hope you are having a great week!...hugs...Debbire

Oh I love this post, Sheila! The black and white with yellow splashes is so visually appealing. Both our kitchen and dining room table are round so I zeroed in on using runners instead of placemats. Fabulous idea! And just the thought of baked garlic cheese grits makes my mouth water. Those sound so good...my favorite grits at this point in time are Asagio grits. Loved that barley twisted flatware too...! I have an overdue email sitting in my draft folder I need to finish and get off to you. Hope your travels were successful! Xo, Sue

This table just screams "HAPPY" to me. Thank you so much for sharing one of your many talents with me this morning. I have so enjoyed this breath of fresh air.

Hope Mr. Magpie is coming along nicely in his healing. I still continue to keep him in prayer.

Many hugs sweetie and so much love, Sherry

It's so nice to step out of the "autumn box" for a cheery black, white, and yellow breakfast.

I love SO MUCH about this table and have a hunch it will be hard to beat on my favorites list this week.

I love the gondola and did NOT guess that it was for toast.

This is just terrific, Sheila.
So glad your BACK.

I'm so glad I stopped by this morning to see the cheery breakfast table! It's our first foggy morning and it's so dreary outside! I'm awake and in a much better mood now!Just love the yellow, black and white and all those patterns!

Got the loveseat in but it was a struggle to get it through the door. Hubby looked at it as said "where did that come from?" Then he proceeded to sit in the grungy, wore out recliner and take a nap. Mission accomplished.:)

I think that was the most fun I have had looking at a tablescape in ages. I am looking at this in the dark of evening and feel like the sun is shining over my shoulder. I love it all and am inspired to be more creative. I am still trying to accumulate a few little things to add that extra touch. Thanks for sharing.

Oh Sheila,
There is nothing that is more fresh and inviting than Black White and Sunny Yellow! The toast holder is just fabulous, no more condensation and soft toast...great invention!!
Enjoy the rest of your weekend xOxO

Sheila, I wish I could pop over there and share a cheerful breakfast with you at that table! It is so fun and tasteful at the same time. Stripes and polka dots are so charming. BUT my favorite thing are those dishes with the words, those are awesome! <3 I hope you're well. Your visits always bring a smile to my heart. I'm looking forward to seeing what ideas you have in your mind for holiday tablescapes!

The rooster in the parking lot LOL. what in the world was he doing there? I can't tell the last time I saw a live chicken (or rooster). Love your table scape. I like the idea of the crisscrossed table runners instead of place mats. So perfect for an intimate meal with friend. Like the polka dots and the twisted flatware. Lots of great ideas here Sheila.

Yikes, what is it with the 116 comments!! ARE you a famous Magpie or what??? I love the yellow salt and pepper shakers, they are so happy and have such personality!! I agree about the lasting quality of those flowers, but my problem is my cat loves to eat them! I don't know why! Have a great week and hope your hubby is doing fine!

Hi Sheila... well, it is evening and quite a few days later. I love this table... EVERYTHING, and especially those S&P smiley shakers. Alstroemeria is one of my faves, too... last forever! And I knew it was a toast holder/server. I've been on the lookout for one of those for a while. Hyacinth 'needs' one.

Thank you for the inspiration! Great color combo, design patterns, and textures.

I missed this...Now that is a table I could truly love sitting with my coffee. I am a BIG fan of black and white...especially polka dots. I have a pitcher...actually 2...that would be perfect...one is black with white dots, the other is white with MILK printed on it. I couldn't resist buying them. Think I am heading to Marshall's tomorrow....
Hugs,
