Burlap Family Est. Sign

I've seen these signs everywhere...all over the internet and Pinterest, in stores, catalogs, magazines, etc.  I kept telling myself that I need to try to make one for myself, but just never got around to it.  Then, in true Jessica fashion, I decided to try it on a whim.  I was sitting on my couch eating hummus and getting sucked into the hideousness that is Days Of Our Lives once again, and noticed that the frame next to the garage door was crooked.  Well, I can't handle crooked frames, so I hopped up to straighten it.  The minute I put my hands on it, I thought hmmm...wouldn't one of those cute little family signs fit perfectly right here?  And that's how it happens...every. single. time....

I ran into the garage and grabbed up what I thought I needed to get started.  You will need an old picture frame (no glass necessary, I threw mine out), burlap, a piece of cardboard to wrap your burlap around, and duct tape or some other adhesive to stick your burlap to the cardboard, paint, a stenciling brush, and a home made stencil.

I started by cutting a piece of burlap big enough to fit over the cardboard with plenty left over to wrap around the back.

I pulled the burlap tight around the edges and taped it down.

Next, I went to my laptop and opened up Cricut Craftroom, and designed a stencil.  If you don't have a Cricut or a Silhouette, just go into Word and find some cute little fonts, print them out on cardstock, and cut the letters out with an x-acto knife.

Tape your stencil down onto the framed burlap,

And dab your paint on with a stenciling brush.  Start from the edge of the stencil and work your way in.

That's it!  Now I have my very own "Family Established" sign.  Have you made one yet?

~Jessica
