How to: D.I.Y Pet silhouette

Since unveiling our mini mud room, we’ve been adding a few knick knacks/artwork in our space. We were inspired by Eat.Live.Shop ‘s fun pet silhouette project but wanted to throw our own spin on the frame (laziness could also be to blame). Sarah managed to scrummage up an old dollarama 8″ x 10″ canvas from her arts & craft box. Here’s a list of materials which you probably have at home already and it only cost $1. 41 (tax included). HOW AWESOME IS THAT!?

Materials:
– plain small canvas (any size you want, ours is 8″ x 10″ from dollarama)
– a cut out of your pet’s head (this sounds really weird but don’t worry no pets were harmed during this process!)
– paint brush(s)
– scissors
– thin black marker
– black acrylic paint
– painters tape

Instructions:
1. With your untouched canvas, tape off the area that you want to make a border with (mine is  1/2 ” all around)

2. Paint several even coats of paint all around the border you have taped off, let it dry completely, then peel off the tape
3. Use a little bit of painters tape to secure the cut out of your Pet Head

4. Using a thin black marker, trace the outline of your Pet Head onto the canvas

5. With a thin tipped paint brush, trace over the outline with acrylic paint

6. Fill in the rest with a thicker paint brush & paint

7. VOILA! (Just for fun, it comes complete with Sammy’s name on the bottom right corner w/ paw print signature)

What Sammy is really doing while I’m busy painting….life of a lucky pup…..

There you have it….$1.41 D.I.Y art! Hope you love this as much as we do 🙂
