Today I decided to do simple rather than elaborate tablescapes. I recently posted about my falling in love with The Friendly Village pattern when I started tablescaping. After that post, I realized that as much as I like that china, I really haven’t used it much. That is why it shows up again in this tablescape.
I decided to pick up on the brown color of the pattern in my kitchen tablescape. I used brown placemats from Wal Mart. I accented with these lovely napkins which I found on eBay and tassel napkin rings that I found on amazon. I did not have a glass that picked up on the brown; they were too much of an amber shade. So I chose the green Dollar General glass again. The contrast is not too much with the brown, and I like the size of them.
Once again, I am dealing with my environment of the dark kitchen and dark table for my photographs, and adding the brown tones in this tablescape does not help matters. I hope that you can make out the details even with the dark photos.
I used the candleholder made by my son again, and I really like the finished, simple tablescape. It is not fancy, but still quite attractive and it showcases the Friendly Village well.
Although I’ve not been blogging very long, you can probably tell that pink is one of my favorite colors for tableware. I decided to do one of my favorite color combinations, pink and silver, in the dining room today.
I used two different types of dinner plates, Noritake Whitescapes Stoneleigh and Mikasa Milbrooke, on my white tablecloth for the basis of the tablescape.
Then I topped the dinner plates with salad plates in Haviland Meadow Visitors. Each plate has a different bird and/or butterfly on it.
I topped these with bread and butter plates in Limoges Haviland Schlieger 318A. I picked up 6 of the Meadow Visitors and 6 of the Limoges at our church sale last fall. I had not been tablescaping long and was thrilled to get them! A couple of them do have a little nick or “flea bite.” I do not normally buy anything with damage, but the nicks weren’t bad, and it was for the church. I absolutely fell in love with the delicate spray of flowers in the Schlieger pattern.
I used my silver plate Grosvenor which you have seen several times (and will be seeing many more times!) and the silver plate napkin rings made by my father-in-law. The pink napkins make another appearance as well as the pink goblets. I explain how I received the goblets here. Then I added the small silver goblets. I really like the sparkle that they add. They were a recent eBay purchase when I started tablescaping. I got them very cheaply, maybe $10. I was thrilled.
For accent pieces, I sorted through my silver collection which I received as wedding gifts. I decided on the large footed silver tray for the center piece. It holds the Homer Laughlin sugar and creamer that once belonged to my grandmother and a small silver sugar spoon.
I chose a round silver tray for another accent. You cannot tell from the photograph, but it has a C in the center of it. I added a silver plate pie server to it, and a small nut or mint dish with a small spoon for scooping. The spoon and pie server are the only pieces which are not wedding gifts; they were in Aunt Nannie’s silver chest.
I like the fact that this tablescape is not elaborate but still elegant with the silver touches throughout.
I hope that you like these two simple tablescapes!

Great tables…love the transferware plates.
Thank you. I am crazy about them also.
Simple, but VERY elegant! Love the brown in the first one–those napkins are gorgeous! And the pink, more girly one is so pretty with it’s bits of silver and pink on that lovely tablecloth!
Those napkins were a steal on ebay. I love them also.
How lovely!
My PINK, your comment is always highly appreciated! Have a great weekend.

Thanks for sharing. I, too, like to use the same dishes, but mix it up. 😉
Yes, I think it is fun to see how many different things I can do with the same dishes.
These are lovely tables! I use some of The Friendly Village in vignettes for fall. They remind me of Thanksgiving in an “Over the river and through the woods” kind of way! Your formal china tablescape is very pretty. Silver and pink are one of my favorite color combinations!
Happy Pink Saturday!
Robin
