diy verdigri patina, italian verdigris magazine holder, painted vintage magazine rack, verdigris faux patina
Do you remember this Italian Magazine holder that I posted about several weeks ago? It started out looking like this:
I found it at an antique fair and for the longest time wasn’t sure what to do with it. That quickly changed when I saw a dresser posted on Pinterest from A Bit O Whimsy. Um…. WOW, she did a fabulous verdigris patina on her dresser and as soon as I saw it, knew I wanted to try it on my magazine holder.
I pretty much followed her tutorial to a T. My magazine holder was already mostly gold, so I just added a little more to the white areas to even it all out. Then I used acrylic (she used chalk paint) paints I had on hand in three teal and green colors, and did a white wash followed by a copper glaze. I finished it off by covering the entire thing with a coat of poly acrylic. It was so easy, and I just love it now!
I love how you can see the copper glaze that’s sunk into all of the detailing on the front…This item is now available for sale in The Shoppe.

Kathryn,
That was an unexpected surprise … Great job, and I love that you can still see the detailing!!! I am in love with that color as it reminds me of the sea. Lakes here in Minnesota … no sea 😦
Hugs,
Bj
