Sofa Table vignette

Before I get into today’s post, I need to try to explain my “style.” I love antiques and vintage things, but I am not like most people who decorate with these types of items. I do not do a whole lot of layers; instead, I prefer just a few items and a somewhat cleaner lined space. I really admire the layered look that I see in a lot of blogs and magazines, but I just prefer less dusting and more focus on a few items that on several in a vignette. I also need to tell you that my living room does not have a lot of natural light, plus it is a very cloudy day outside. You may need to click on the picture to enlarge it to check out the details since the photos are a little too dark for a good blog post.

That being said, I recently decided to change the arrangement on my sofa table.  It was really too sparse, even for me. I changed it a few months ago to this, and I have never been very happy with it. You also need to know that even though I like this sofa table a lot (it came from Grandmommy’s house), it is a little shaky and I do not feel comfortable putting too much on it. {Even though I use this as an occasional table, I still call it a sofa table because my grandmother used it as such.} So I started shopping the house for some things to change up the sofa table. A few of the things that I collect are pitchers, platters, pottery vases, rabbits, and Gail Pittman Flame pattern pottery. I think that the table needs some height, but a platter, pitcher, or tall vase would be too heavy for this table. I absolutely love the chunky candleholders. My son made them for me and even bought the pillar candles that are in them a few Christmases ago.  However, once I did some gathering of items and trying different things on the table, I did not think that I wanted to use them on this table. I will do another post when I find a space for them!

After going back and forth from room to room shopping the house, I settled on the following. The Gail Pittman candleholders and vase were in my kitchen. However, I recently got a few other Gail Pittman pieces on eBay, so I needed to remove a few things from the countertops. These look great here, and I use the burgundy color as an accent around the living room.

Then I added my two vintage tins that came from Grandmommy’s house. They add some personality to the previously bland table.

Then I decided that I needed just a little something else. I added my two vintage paperweights, and I was done.

Hope you like my finished vignette! I am very satisfied with it and feel like it shows a little more personality and character.

Wowza, I love those candle holders. I have so many children and being the oldest of my grandparents that my house is so full of things. I do not spend much time arranging them which is kind of sad. Your post inspires me to make an effort to do that. I am constantly into painting a picture or crocheting something I need to change some of my activities. Over from Kathe’s for a visit.
