things I love – embroidery samplers

July 8, 2012

I love embroidery samplers.

While the purpose of the sampler is to use a variety of stitches, the simple compositions always capture my imagination.

Samplers aren’t fussy.  They are all about exploring techniques and imagining ways to apply them.

I’ve never actually made a sampler.  However, that little oversight is about to be remedied 🙂

.

After a year of trying to mentally assemble the right art project to go with this remnant of an old door…

a project that would incorporate my enthusiasm for stitching on paper, my sketchpad finally has a working idea on the page.  A sampler of hearts…another loveprint!

I completed my first prototype heart and felt this was indeed the right direction.

So I stitched a couple more.

And in harmony with my preference for repurposing, I’m selecting used greeting cards for each embroidery square (the reverse side), to assemble a sort-of patchwork art product that will nestle inside the door panel.

Such a nice feeling to finally move forward on this project!  I should have known that a loveprint would be the answer 🙂

.

Thank you for reading – hope you have a fabulous week ahead.

    Okay………VERY cool.
    Very, very, VERY cool!!

Don’t you just love it when something just falls into place?

    Looks like this one did…….finally……LOL

And I’m loving the samplers–the idea of doing it on cardstock is somehow appealing to me. LORD knows I need to make more cards…..LOLOL

Diane, girl, you are so creative!

LOVE your stitch samples (especially that first one) and I can’t wait to see your finale for the door panel. What a great idea!

Hope you’re having a wonderful week!

Much X to you and Cristybella!

That’s going to look so good! The piece of door is fabulous and needs something equally fabulous to go with it. Your hearts should fit the bill perfectly!
