Let’s Dish ~ Mother’s Day…

I was able to use my latest purchases that I showed you a few weeks ago to create a table scape.

I ended up using and changing out 3 different chargers. The bright green, bright purple and pale purple.

My mother is an old world mother. One who sacrifices everything for her husband and children. She has never driven a car to this day and she is 89. She was a stay at home mom her whole married life. Her love was expressed by sharing her faith in God, providing good meals, sewing clothing for her daughters, and putting herself last when it came to needing something new. My mom bore 9 children. Her first daughter died at 2 years old in Iran. Eight of us are all still alive and well in Southern California, Texas, and Washington. Here’s my mom at Katie and Andrew’s wedding in March.

This photo was taken by Jeremy Leffel, I love it! That’s my dear dad behind her making sure she kept steady since she is using a walker these days. It would be nice to serve my mom a meal at this table but traveling is getting very hard for her. She’ll be celebrating at my niece’s home with some of my sister’s families.

I used flowering rosemary and another ground cover in the vases.

I am really enjoying this color combination. I’m still on the lookout for a few more pieces.

I talked to my mom on the phone today and told her I didn’t buy a card, yet. I’m going to have to do something special when I see her the weekend after Mother’s Day weekend.

Happy Mother’s Day to all mothers who visit here…

I’m linking up with Kathleen at Cuisine Kathleen for Let’s Dish Mother’s Day edition and with Susan at Between Naps on the Porch for Tablescape Thursday.

  1. I really love this color scheme, and the purple and green glassware and vases look wonderful together! I especially like the way you extended the vases down the center of the table — a great look! And the green chargers are perfect! How blessed we are to have our mothers still in our lives! Mine turns 80 next week. Happy Mother’s Day!

  2. Your table is beautiful! I love the colors the mix of china and crystal, and the way you used herbs for your floral decor. Just lovely! Happy Mother’s day to you as well, Ellen. There’s so much to be thankful for! God is good! ~ LaTeaDah ~

Your mom….she is just sooooo beautiful! Her smile is precious! That picture tells a happy story.

  8. Hi Ellen, your table is beautiful. Love the colors together. My husband loves purple. I might have to find some dishes or glasses. Your centerpiece is lovely. Here’s wishing you and your family a fabulous Mother’s Day. Your parents are darling. Thanks for visiting and leaving me sweet words.

  9. Your table is so pretty – I love the purple and green together.
Happy Mother’s Day to your dear Mom. I wish I still had mine here to celebrate but I know we’ll be together again in Heaven some day..

  10. I think I know a group of other mom’s that would love to sit at your table. Bless you, what a beautiful tribute. You are so privileged and blessed to have them.

  11. Hi Ellen, your table is beautiful and I hope your mom gets to see the photos! I love the color of your dining room walls 🙂

  12. Ellen that tablescape is WONDERFUL! I really love your green wall color and it is just the perfect backdrop for your table colors…now wouldn’t it be fun to be able to switch wall colors as easily as one switches out charger and goblets and napkins and such?

Seems like your green is great with everything though, just like the green in nature works with every color in the garden.

The forks on the napkin gave me a flashback to a home Ec. class where I had to set a table and was marked off for placing the forks on the napkin like my mom always did at home. The “official” rule was that one may only properly place forks upon a napkin in an outdoor setting where a breeze might blow a napkin away. I tried to belatedly assert that my setting was indeed for a garden party but my teacher didn’t buy my excuse.

    • All I was thinking about was Downton Abbey and needing to get a ruler out to see if everything was exactly in the right place LOL. I’m glad you noticed this is an outdoor setting and the wind was blowing fiercely…

  13. Hi, Ellen! I’m totally diggin’ the purples and green!!! That is a color combination I have loved for years and years. It’s one of those combos that can take on a regal look or a fun, playful look depending on the pieces used. L-O-V-E the trail of flowers down the center! I saw that beautiful Ralph Lauren table linen the other day and really loved the design. Just couldn’t find it in a 90″ round. Poo! You did a wonderful job here! The photo of your Mom is priceless, and I’m sure, too, that she would have enjoyed sitting down to your pretty setting. She’ll see pictures, though, and enjoy it just the same! Have a wonderful Mother’s Day weekend and a safe trip to visit your Mom in a couple of weeks! Oh, P.S. re: the forks on the napkin: I have all but tossed all convention out the window when it comes to table settings these days unless I am doing a super formal dinner. I just do what WORKS!!! 🙂

  14. Gorgeous details on your table. Love the color combination and the shape of the plates. The photo of your parents is darling. Hope you have a Happy Mother’s Day weekend.

  15. So pretty, Ellen! I’d gladly fill in for your mom…and come plant my feet under your table in her spot. Great photo of your parents!

  16. Oh my goodness, you just hit on one of my favorite color combos. I love purples with green, and in particular I love THAT shade of purple with THAT shade of green. It’s just beautiful!

  17. The richness of your glassware is just stunning and I agree, the purple and green are stunning. I love your tablecloth too. What a great photo of your mom and dad and although they won’t be with you, the table is a wonderful tribute!

  18. Happy Mother’s Day to you too Ellen,
Your table is beautiful! I love that color combination.
The picture of your sweet mother——–priceless.

  19. The stack of lavender (purple) and green plates is lovely! I had to look several times to see all the different pieces and I love it all!!!! The vases are so sweet with the dainty flowers. My favorite is the green and purple place plates which you alternated! This table really was creative and my favorite this week! Have a great time with your Mother next weekend!

  20. Ellen, this table is beautiful, one of my all time favorites…love the green and purple. I am thinking of painting my dining room a similar color to yours, just a little lighter is what I had in mind, but may change that after seeing yours.
Your mother is a beautiful lady and you are so lucky to have her.
    Happy Mother’s Day!

  21. This is so pretty! Love the purple and green, the new glasses look wonderful!
The napkins are so pretty, and I love the little vases with naturals down the middle, the colors go so nicely!
I don’t think they make mothers like we had anymore. They would sacrifice everything for their families, and worked so hard!
Happy Mother ‘s Day to you Ellen, and your darling mom too!

  22. Your Mom looks great and so happy in that photo! The tablescape you’ve created is just beautiful. I love the color combination and I love all the pretty glass containers going down the center of the table.

  25. Your tablescape is perfectly lovely! I so enjoyed reading about your Mom. Mine is elderly now as well and was also a stay at home mom who created a wonderful home life for my Daddy and for me. I am so happy that I found your lovely blog and will be back often.

    Hugs,
