I made this one for my collegue. You like?
I made these a few weeks months ago. But I’ve been a bit slack with updates. Very hard to find a few mintues for posting from the pc, not just my htc.
I know the original link where I got the idea from is more kids art, but I wanted to make these myself. I can’t remember ever making them at school either. I had some nice scrapbook, wrapping and crepe paper, ribbon and a glue gun. I also have a huge stash of toilet paper rolls.
This isn’t an official tutorial, but I’ll share my pics of what I did and how they came out.

Stuff you need: craft glue, empty toilet paper rolls, array of scrap paper, ribbon, stiff board like from a box, glue gun
-
-
Cut your toilet roll and kitchen roll tubes to the desired height. I used a craft knife.
-
-
Measure the paper you want to glue around your tube. Leave anough paper at both ends so that you can tuc kit in – results a neater finished edge.
-
-
I found that flt paper doesn’t like to be glued in a curve. So I rolled the paper up tighter that the tube and lit the paper ‘rest’ INSIDE the tube so that it can take on a curved shape. (hope that made sense)

-
I tend to always make mess when glueing. That’s why I always cover my working area in news paper – I happen to have a stash of unprinter newspaper – works like a charm. After painting and messing you simply fold the top layers of paper up and dispose.

-
I painted the inside of thetubes black so that they have a more polished look. Snip the paper into centimeter strips before folding down and glueing to the inside of the tubes, otherwise the paper will warp and pleat and really look like a pre-school project.

This is the red-orange one I use on my desk.

What I didn’t take pics of: I glue-ginned the decorated tubes together keeping their bases level. Then traced the base shape onto scrap cardboard from a box. Cut out the new base and glue to the bottom of the tubes – again I used my glue gun.
