Out With Pumpkins & Gourds

Once the calendar hit December, I knew it was time, time for the pumpkins and gourds to be bagged and put out with the trash.  I could do that without too much regret because I got a lot of mileage from them.

Next, it’s out with the traditional Spode Christmas dishes that  only appear during the holiday season.  Taking them from the cabinet where they hide for the better part of the year is like finding an old friend.  I am going to use these or other seasonal tableware every day from now until the end of the year…really!

Let’s start here at the bar where most nights the hubby and I share our evening meal.

Simple it may be, but with a touch of holiday flair, it’s a pleasant place to enjoy dinner at home.

And, if you want to come by before dinner, I’ll pour you a glass of eggnog, plain or with a little spirits.   Come in the morning and you’ll be invited in for an eggnog latte.  Tis the season!

i love your thoughts, so jump right in and share yours

  2. One season ends but another lovely season begins. I would love to share an eggnog with you and I’ll take mine with a little spirits, please.

  3. I’m thinking eggnog latte and a couple of chairs by the roaring fireplace. Thanks for the invitation. Cherry Kay

  4. Since I “rested” my pumpkins outside and we had a hard hard freeze this week.. well they are now mushy.. so it’s not hard to toss those pretty pretty things. I love your table. It’s amazing. So glad to see you use your sugar mold for a centerpiece. I turned mine into an advent wreath (who says they have to be round??) Love those spode dishes. They are old friends. and too am happy to have them make their appearance each year. A really pretty pretty table! xo marlis

  5. You are much more at ease with tossing your autumn decor than I am. I STILL have the big, beautiful pumpkin that my Mom gave me sitting just inside the front door. It is so pretty and still perfectly intact…I just hate to see it go! Tomorrow is trash day, though, so I’m afraid it will have to bid us all adieu to make way for the Christmas decor I am FINALLY installing today! 😦 I love that Spode pattern. It is truly a classic, and it reminds me of what I love about the season (besides rejoicing in the birth of Jesus). I’m ALWAYS up for a glass of egg nog, especially when it’s served in such pretty stemware! I’ll be over around 6! 🙂

  6. Your Spode dishes are so pretty. I have always loved that pattern. Hope you enjoy them all month long. Happy Holidays!

  7. ❤ the spode design. It really classes up a weeknight dinner in December!

  8. I must confess I use my Christmas dishes well into February because once I go to all the trouble of switching them in the cabinet, I can’t be bothered switching them back a month later. So, just after the Epiphany, I let my eyes go a bit unfocused when I look down into my plate, so I can see the trees, but not the decorations on them. Then they’re Winter dishes. 😉

    1. I so appreciate your comments, especially the ones that make me chuckle!

  9. I love eggnog and I would love to share some with you. The latte sounds interesting. I know we could talk for hours. We have the Christmas Tree Spode pattern in common. I have just learned it began in 1938. Your Ikat place mats look great. Falling snowflakes are festive!

  10. Shame to see the pumpkins go, but I guess it’s out with the old and in with the new 🙂

  11. I was sorry to toss my mini pumpkins even though I got a lot of enjoyment out of them, they were still firm & in good shape!

We enjoy sitting at the kitchen island for a lot of our meals and I enjoy using my holiday dishes for the month too!

  12. Lol, Lulu, thanks for sharing your trash with us!
I use a set of Cmas dishes for everyday too, why not? After all , we won’t wear them out,
I agree, makes it a cheerful place to share a meal.
    Have a great weekend!

You make my day with your comments
