Week in Review - Ups & Downs

So how are you all doing? Working on projects while tackling real life? I hear you sista! I want to share a few personal things that keeps our life here hectic, crazy and cute!

First, a serious medical situation that I hope will save you from tons of pain if you should ever experience it. Kidney stones. Yup, I recently had one so LISTEN UP -

If you ever have sudden lower back pain on one side and its uncomfortable to sit, stand or lay down it will NOT go away - you DO need to go to a doctor or hospital. I tend to be strong against pain as I believe most women do, but trust me, this pain will not go away by itself. I waited over 2 hours before deciding to go to the hospital and that was 2 hours to long!

Kidney stones are usually thought to be found in a person of ill health and poor diet. Wrong. I've always been healthy and half of my food is organic so don't think it can't happen to you. If you want more info feel free to email me: PlayfulDecor (at) gmail (dot) com.

Now on to other things in the past week -

During a windstorm, a neighbor's tree fell on the trampoline:

Closet doors and cabinet from Craigslist:
These will look awesome when we're done!

I want to paint it white, but the wood is so nice!

I've been working on opening my light business and getting somewhat frustrated with the website so I had a brain-check and realized I didn't need to build and market the site! What a huge relief! I'm sure many of you have small businesses and know what I'm going through - creating, building and marketing a product and/or brand. I already have the Playful Decor brand, blog and etsy shop (soon!) so I don't need to create another brand. Yahoo! The clouds have parted and I'm seeing the light!

And the cute.....

a few days  ago, my boys decided they wanted a shelves next to their beds. Well, when they decide on doing something, they do it....

DIY decorating 5 year-old style!
I know, I know, I need to get their rooms done....they're next!

So what do you think - paint the cabinet white or leave it? It will be in my office which is mostly white and turquoise. Maybe I should get my sons' opinions!

I love that the boys did that themselves!!! They are taking after mommy!!! I hope you are feeling better. I too never want to go to the doctor and have ended up causing myself more problems because of that!! Yikes, about the tree and the trampoline!! Thank goodness it happened when nobody was playing on it! (That is a comment my mother would make, and now it so easily comes out of me as well)

Hope you are feeling better! In regards to the piece, I think you should go with your instincts! Can't wait to see what you decide to do!

I love the bookshelf! Your boys are very creative!

I know what you mean about painting pretty wood. I saw a blog recently that showed a beautiful, Arts and Crafts style buffet made out of quartersawn oak, they painted it white. I almost cried. I'm still sick at my stomach about it.

Hi all - yes, my boys are creative! They love to make things - when they tried to make a tree house last year, they had rope, scrap wood, a chain (!) and bungee cords - I have a pic somewhere!

For the cabinet, I think I'll sit with it for a while - it will look better after I re-cover the chaise, too. Even though I'm painting everything white in the house, I'm a bit hesitant on this piece. Kathy, I just don't have a true gut feeling yet!

Nan, I say paint the cabinet white to match your office. :-) Oh, and wow did you guys get some wind out in Latonka recently? That's a big tree to get blown over! Glad everyone was okay.

Blessings,
Rosann

Nan,

I've had a kidney stone pass too...so painful!

Love all of your projects going, and yes, it does always seem to pour when it rains;)

On the business, just keep at the experimenting, but sticking to your main theme and vision. This is the time to do it, when the business is young and the economy is rough. I still experiment all of the time, and learn things constantly. It should always be evolving anyway:)

I'm so glad you're feeling better! I've heard kidney stones are really painful.

Love the doors and that cabinet is so pretty! I say live with it as is for a little bit. It's always easy to change it with paint but a lot harder to go the other direction.

And your boys' clever DIY! So fun!

Good luck with the business end. I know how hard that is!

Have a great week, Nan!
