I like it layered on my Grammy's telephone table.
And now the the red room....been that way for 11 years.....we loved this office/bedroom downstairs. My hubby uses it for his office. I had the idea to paint it light and add some more masculine touches. But first, the before pics.......
We've added some recently acquired furniture pieces because there was no where else to put them. (corner cabinet on the left, small table and chair in the middle). We already had an Ethan Allen black GW makeover in the right corner.....too much unrelated stuff. Oh, and there's a twin size iron bed in there...gotta have it for extra sleeping. Time to simplify.
Have you ever had a red room? wanted a red room? painted over a red room? I hope I'm not making a mistake!
Have you ever had a red room? wanted a red room? painted over a red room? I hope I'm not making a mistake!
So, we (er, uh, hubby) painted the room SW Antique White, we removed the light colored area rug, and we replaced it with my MIL's red oriental rug which was hiding under the dining room table looking dark. I got hubby this French WWI or II artillery basket at a flea market. Can be used to hold plans, maps, sporting equipment.....a manly basket!
And now for the change.....have I lost my mind?
We removed the black hutch top, and swapped places with the corner cabinet. Now they don't fight each other. I'll probably leave the corner cabinet doors open. The pictures were slapped up on the wall right where they had been, but will be coming down for a new arrangement around the small table and chair. So, this is not a finished room yet. The beautiful valance with inverted pleats that I had made (sigh) has come down and I picture something simple on a black iron rod...maybe even drop cloth drapes. Now I love red...my living room used to be red (for about 15 years) and now this office/bedroom (about 11 years). But it was beginning to close in on me and feel like a cave. The room definitely looks bigger, fresher. I'm looking forward to rearranging all the pics (um, or my daughter will : ) Do you have a red room? Do you like it?
I like this on top of the corner cabinet..... a topiary from my MIL, a 100+ year old Bible that my husband found years ago, and an unusual thing....an iron bowl filled with recently acquired GW baseballs (thank you, private eye Debbie @ Confessions of a Plate Addict who found them for me!). Ordinary stuff in unusual places.
I like it when useful ordinary stuff earns a place of honor as a decor item.....my MIL's paint brushes in a silver flea market container.
Ordinary stuff in unusual places.....
French clothespins in a tin......
Desk supplies in china cups........rubber bands....
Paper clips (oops, almost out of 'em)....
Pens. If I didn't use them this way, they would be stuck on a shelf in a cabinet, hardly seen, never used....what's the point?
There, thanks for visiting my random posting this week. So what do you think of the non-red room....brilliance or a mistake? (Daughter, don't answer that! : )

Loved the red room, but have to say the change is great! I am sure the change feels good! Great job!
Have a nice day!

I like the lighter, fresher looking color now! It will facilitate easier color changes for your accessories in the future. Your vignettes are adorable. My baseballs came from our son's collection of them- how easy was that? LOL Love how you use the teacups to hold all your little necessities!

Love the new color. I had a red room in my last house. It does close you in after a while. I love red accents, but I don't think I'll have a red room again. I love all of your accessories. It is so interesting to use beautiful things in unusual ways. The room looks fabulous. Thanks so much for joining TTT. Hugs, Marty
WONDERFUL!!!!!
White gives you the freedom to change up with whatever accents your heart desires...very versatile!
Great job, and love all the fun places you put the unusuals!!!!
Great,

Sweet Up-North Mornings...
I love it, Linda! I think you will not only get used to it, but love it, too! Love the tea cups for rubber bands, etc...clever! The baseballs look great and so does that wondeful artillary basket! Don't you love having a whole new room to work on?? I do! lol Happy weekend!...hugs...Debbie
No, I've never had a red room, I love how yours turned out, love the carpet from your MIL there really makes it look so pretty!

I do love red rooms, but have a hard time living with them every day. This looks very fresh and inviting, and I love that oriental carpet. I think my favorite decor item is the silver cup full of paintbrushes - what a neat idea. Or maybe the baseballs - I would smile and think of summer every time I saw that :) Kat
I know how your feeling. I changed our red dining room to a summer blue/green color last year! It was quite a changed but I am so glad I did now! I loved the red but it was time for change. With your new color you will still be able to bring in as many red accents as you want! I think it looks wonderful, and will probably be more relaxing for guests too!
Your new room transformation looks great! Yes, we did have a red room for years and just freshened it up last year. It's now a pretty beige and I love it!
Ordinary stuff in unusual places...I need to do more of that! Love the idea of using tea cups for various things.
Hi Linda! I love red rooms but I know how it gets - we get a little tired of them. My kitchen has been red for about six years and I've just recently repainted it a soft yellow and I love it. Your room looks so fresh and it does look bigger!
I love how you've used all your pretty pieces for your office supplies. Those tea cups - total covetness! :)
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
Linda, as a lover of Antique White myself, I think you definitely did the right thing. I loved red for about 6 years, but really felt the need to lighten up & haven't regretted it a moment.
Those dark wood antique pieces we love show up SO much better against a lighter background. I think it looks terrific!
Beautiful makeover Linda!
Our powder room was red for about 6years. We repainted it last year in a dark brown(Mink from SW). Haven't missed the red yet, even though it was wonderful all those years.
That is just lovely! Can't wait to see more of your projects.

I really like the lightness of the room, the red was way too heavy for my tastes. I love that desk...gorgeous.
Hi Linda, I am so over the red wall look! I am just about to paint my redish/orangy dining room (that way when we moved in) and I am a little nervous. But seeing yours has convinced me to do it! It feels like a breath of fresh air and your pretty teacups show up now. I hope we still like this look during the cold winter months! Linda
I like it both ways Linda!
And you have such a good eye for decorating that you always make it look so nice. I think we all need changes and it's fun to mix it up~
Hugs,
Cindy
I like it, Linda. It looks bright and airy., And no, I have never had a red room. It looks like a very practical room...Christine
I love the new color. Sometimes you just need a change. The desk is beautiful!
I love the baseballs in the metal basket!!!! The bilble looks amazing where it is too!
Well, I usually love red rooms and yours was so pretty, but I have to say the white really gives your room a crisp fresh look. Love the baseballs in the vase!
I really like the lighter colored room and especially like how you used your cute teacups. I have my grammy's telephone table also...I use it as a night stand in my bedroom.
I love that tole painted tray. It is lovely. Great find. ~~Sherry~~
I have had a red dining room but I tired of it. I like this room white. I love the balls in the urn. I have a similar arrangement in a sweetgrass basket. I find them full of whimsy. olive♥
I love the look of the baseballs in the dish. I am going to have to copy that. Thanks for the inspiration.
I love red so I love the red room. But I understand the need for changing and for lightening up! Love harlequin bucket and the french clothespins!
Manuela
I miss the red room in my old house and while your white is very nice, the red was FABULOUS!
But I do love all the goodies in this room and the wonderful way you have them displayed.
love your sense of style- great unexpected mixes of wrought iron bowl and baseballs make me smile!
Karen
